Bayern Hints at Goretzka’s Status, Eberl Signals No More Signings

Bayern Munich has hinted at Leon Goretzka’s potential transfer. At the same time, Max Eberl has indicated that the club is unlikely to make any additional signings this summer. With Goretzka’s future uncertain and no new arrivals expected, Bayern is focusing on their current squad for the upcoming season.

Bayern Munich drops another hint about Leon Goretzka’s transfer status

This summer, Bayern Munich faced tough decisions about their senior players. Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, both key defenders, have left the club to join Manchester United. With these departures, Bayern doesn’t anticipate many more senior players leaving the team.

Despite not receiving concrete offers for several senior players, Bayern is doing its part to send a strong message to them. Leon Goretzka is one of the several Die Roten players who were expected to leave this summer. The German midfielder is determined to remain in Munich and compete for a spot on the team. However, if he doesn’t get a chance to be even in the matchday squad, he may have to consider his options in the next two weeks.

Kicker and Sky Sports in Germany report that Leon Goretzka has been excluded from tonight’s DFB Pokal match against Ulm. Although Goretzka is fully fit, he has been left out of the squad for technical reasons.

Even though he’s been left out of the squad for the DFB Pokal match, Sky Sports reports that Goretzka is still committed to staying in Munich and earning playing time under Vincent Kompany.

Bayern have not yet received any solid offers for Goretzka

Even though Bayern have put Goretzka on the transfer market, they have yet to receive any firm offers for the German midfielder. While Napoli and Atletico Madrid have been mentioned as potential suitors, both clubs are currently focusing on other midfield targets.

Goretzka’s high salary (€17 million per year) makes it challenging for Bayern to attract suitable offers. His contract with Munich runs until 2026. He was deeply disappointed to miss out on a spot in the German squad for Euro 2024. If Goretzka wants to regain a place in Nagelsmann’s plans for the national team, he may need to explore his options in the next two weeks. He is not a key player for Vincent Kompany, with several other midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order.

Suppose Goretzka leaves Bayern in the final two weeks of the transfer window. In that case, the club will unlikely look for a replacement midfielder. Bayern has already strengthened their midfield by signing Joao Palhinha from Fulham. Aleksandar Pavlovic is expected to have a more significant role this season. Additionally, Joshua Kimmich has chosen to stay at Die Roten and will be used in midfield by Vincent Kompany.

Max Eberl suggests that Bayern Munich is unlikely to make any more signings this summer

Bayern Munich has had a busy summer transfer window. The club was determined to revamp their squad after a season without trophies. Before pre-season training started, they began the window with a flurry of activity, securing deals for Hiroki Ito, Joao Palhinha, and Michael Olise.

After making three initial signings, Bayern Munich’s transfer activity slowed down. Uli Hoeness emphasized the need for player departures to accommodate new arrivals. Last weekend, Bayern made progress in this area, with Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui transferring to Manchester United for a fee of €70 million, including bonuses.

The Bavarian club also saw increased transfer funds when former striker Joshua Zirkzee moved from Bologna to Manchester United. Bayern had included a substantial sell-on clause in Zirkzee’s transfer to Bologna two years ago. Additionally, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s departure on a free transfer allowed Bayern to save on wages, freeing up more money for new signings.

Bayern’s squad could be better if they used a few more signings in the last two weeks of the transfer window. However, Max Eberl said on Thursday that the team is ready for the season. Likely, Bayern will only make signings in the next two weeks.

“If nothing extraordinary happens, we have the squad ready for the season.”

The squad overhaul hasn’t gone as Bayern Munich planned

Bayern aimed to boost their attack by signing Désiré Doué from Rennes. Still, the French winger chose Paris Saint-Germain instead. Bayern also showed interest in Xavi Simons, but the Dutch attacking midfielder joined RB Leipzig on loan.

Bayern won’t rush into the transfer market after missing out on Doué and Simons. They prefer to wait for the right opportunity rather than make a hasty purchase. Bayern is still interested in Jonathan Tah but isn’t willing to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price. If Leverkusen lowers its demands, Tah could be Bayern’s only realistic signing in the last two weeks of the transfer window.

The record Bundesliga champions aimed to make significant changes to their squad, but they have struggled to move senior players. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, who were expected to leave, will remain at Bayern for the upcoming season. Serge Gnabry was also considered a possible departure. Still, he is focused on returning to his best form at Bayern and is not seeking a move. The club’s leaders will keep these players, though their long-term futures at Munich remain unclear.
