Goretzka’s Future Uncertain, Tel Set for Key Role

Leon Goretzka’s future at Bayern Munich is in doubt, with speculation rising about his role under new manager Vincent Kompany. Meanwhile, Mathys Tel is poised to become a key player for the club, having been impressed in recent matches and having secured a long-term contract. As Goretzka’s position remains uncertain, Tel’s potential emergence could reshape Bayern’s midfield dynamics.

Leon Goretzka’s future at Bayern Munich is in doubt

Describing Bayern Munich’s current situation as a transition is an understatement. After their first season without trophies in over ten years, with a new manager in Vincent Kompany and his entire coaching staff, Bayern is eager to reclaim their position at the top of German football. Last season, Bayer Leverkusen, under Xabi Alonso, rightfully took that spot.

Club officials and the supervisory board have expressed that Bayern needed to sell some players before bringing in new signings like Hiroki Ito, Michael Olise, and João Palhinha. Even with Mazraoui and De Ligt set to move to Manchester United, further departures could still be on the horizon.

Additionally, Leon Goretzka‘s future at Bayern under Kompany is now uncertain. Joshua Kimmich is set to play in midfield this season rather than right-back, which will add to the already crowded midfield. Kimmich, Palhinha, Aleksandar Pavlović, Konrad Laimer, and Goretzka will all compete for playing time, and Raphaël Guerreiro could also be utilized in the midfield.

In Bayern’s recent preseason friendly against Tottenham in North London, Goretzka remained on the bench, which has led to speculation that he may not fit into Kompany’s plans for the midfield this season. According to kicker Frank Linkesch, the midfielder currently seems unlikely to be a part of the team’s plans for the upcoming season.

Goretzka’s current contract with Bayern runs until the summer of 2026, making this a crucial time for him if he wants to seek a new club before the end of the transfer window. Bayern would prefer to avoid the situation of him entering the final year of his contract without a clear decision. Although he had previously shown a willingness to stay and fight for his spot, his stance may have changed recently. It’s a challenging situation for a player who signed a contract extension just a few seasons ago with the expectation of being a key part of the club’s future success alongside Kimmich.

Mathys Tel is set to play a key role for Bayern Munich

Before Vincent Kompany joined Bayern Munich, Mathys Tel‘s future with the club seemed unclear. However, reports say that the French attacker is now expected to play a significant role in the team.

Tel started both matches against Tottenham, and at just 19 years old, he is highly regarded by Kompany. Playing on the left wing, Tel is seen by the Belgian manager as a potential starter, especially after Bryan Zaragoza’s loan move to Osasuna and Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in Kingsley Coman.

Joining Bayern Munich from Stade Rennais as a 17-year-old in July 2022 for €20 million, Tel has made 69 appearances (2,006 minutes) across all competitions, with 16 goals and six assists—averaging a goal contribution every 91.1 minutes. Last season, the Frenchman scored ten goals and provided six assists in 41 games, though he started only six times in the Bundesliga.

In March, Tel extended his contract with Bayern Munich until June 2029, following assurances from Christoph Freund and Max Eberl that he would be a key player for the club’s future, “a clear path and assured him that he is planned as a key player.” With Kompany now at the helm, that future may arrive sooner than expected.
