Bayern Munich kicked off their Champions League campaign earlier this month with a stunning performance, demolishing Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 in their first group stage match.
Given the overwhelming score, England captain Harry Kane performed an important part for the German team, scoring four goals and surpassing Wayne Rooney to become the highest-scoring Englishman in Champions League history.
Kane and the German team’s next European match is against Aston Villa at Villa Park, but there are worries that an ‘angry’ Kane might not be able to make the journey.
Kane Reportedly Upset Before the Aston Villa Trip
Bayern prepared for their second Champions League match of the season with a significant showdown against title contenders Bayer Leverkusen, who achieved their first-ever Bundesliga title last season while going unbeaten to secure a domestic double.
Kane, rated by FourFourTwo as the third-best striker in the world, couldn’t finish Saturday’s match due to a heavy tackle from Leverkusen’s Amine Adli, forcing him to leave the field with four minutes left in the 1-1 draw.
Thomas Muller came on for Kane to finish the match, and the England captain is now racing to be fit for the Villa game. According to Bild, he left the stadium “heavily bandaged” and upset about the tackle, especially since referee Felix Zwayer chose not to issue a yellow card to Adli.
“It’s painful, but I think it’s OK. It doesn’t feel that bad. We’ll see over the next few days,” Kane said, as per Bild. “We’ve already seen in football last year that cards are given for that, even red cards… But that’s football. We have important games ahead of us, so let’s move on.”
On Sunday, the club provided another update, stating that there has been a “positive development” regarding Kane’s injury. He is undergoing “intensive treatment” in hopes that the 31-year-old will be ready for the match at Villa Park.
The injury happened while Bayern was seeking a late goal. Robert Andrich’s long-range first-half shot was equalized by Aleksandar Pavlovic’s distant strike six minutes before the break.
The 1-1 draw keeps Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga, with Kane netting 10 goals in his seven games this season in all competitions.
Last season, during Bayern Munich’s remarkable journey to the semi-finals of the Champions League, Harry Kane got the chance to face up against the Premier League teams on two occasions in England. In a thrilling match at Old Trafford, he played a pivotal role by assisting the winning goal, which helped Bayern secure a victory over Erik ten Hag’s squad during the group stage. This impressive performance not only showcased Kane’s skill but also highlighted his importance to the team’s success. Later in the knockout rounds, he faced another English rival, scoring a crucial goal against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of the quarter-finals. His contribution was vital as Bayern ultimately advanced with a narrow aggregate score of 3-2, continuing their pursuit of European glory.
As the Three Lions captain, Kane is also keeping a close eye on England’s upcoming Nations League doubleheader as he works diligently to recover from his recent injury. Under Lee Carsley’s guidance, the national team will kick off their campaign by facing Greece at Wembley Stadium on Thursday, October 10. This game offers a fantastic chance for the team to build momentum. Shortly after, they will travel to Finland on Sunday, October 13, hoping to secure valuable points in the league. Kane’s presence will be crucial for England as they aim to perform well in these important fixtures.
