Kim Min-Jae Scores, Tel Withdraws from France U21 Squad

Kim Min-Jae opened the scoring in Bayern Munich’s thrilling 3-3 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, netting his first goal of the 2024-25 Bundesliga season. His goal came early in the match, giving Bayern the lead, but the game quickly turned into a high-scoring affair. On a separate note, Bayern teammate Mathys Tel has been forced to withdraw from the France U21 squad for the upcoming international break. The 19-year-old forward is dealing with a minor shoulder injury, which, while not serious, will rule him out of two important European Championship qualifiers against Cyprus and Austria.

Kim Min-Jae Scores First in Bayern’s 3-3 Draw with Frankfurt

Korean defender Kim Min-jae netted his first goal of the 2024-25 Bundesliga season for Bayern Munich on Sunday, kicking off the scoring in a 3-3 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kim found the net in the 15th minute at Germany’s Deutsche Bank Park to put Bayern ahead, but the Bundesliga giants couldn’t hold the lead, as the match became a high-scoring battle.

Omar Marmoush leveled the score in the 22nd minute, and Hugo Ekitike put Eintracht Frankfurt ahead in the 35th. Bayern’s Dayot Upamecano responded in the 38th minute, closing the first half at 2-2.

Bayern regained the lead in the second half as Michael Olise scored with a curling shot in the 53rd minute. However, a stoppage-time goal by Marmoush handed Bayern their second league draw of the season.

Despite Sunday’s draw, Bayern remains at the top of the league table with four wins and two draws.

Sunday’s game was Bayern’s final match before the FIFA international break, during which Kim will join the Korean national team to play against Jordan on October 10 and October 10 and Iraq on October 15 the third round of the World Cup qualifying tournament in 2026.

Kim heads to the national team after being a consistent starter for Bayern, having featured in nine matches across all competitions this season.

His time at Bayern, under new manager Vincent Kompany, contrasts with the latter half of last season when he saw fewer minutes under former coach Thomas Tuchel, who frequently left Kim out of his preferred starting lineup.

The Bayern defender featured in the last two World Cup qualifiers under new Korea manager Hong Myung-bo, securing one win and one draw.

A victory in the upcoming qualifier against Jordan will see second-placed Korea take the top spot in Group B from the 2023 Asian Cup runners-up.

Bayern’s Mathys Tel Forced to Leave France U21 Squad

Mathys Tel (19) has been forced to pull out of the France U21 squad for the upcoming international break, according to L’Équipe.

Former Stade Rennais forward Tel has featured in only five matches across all competitions for Bayern Munich this season and is still searching for his first goal. However, he was called up to the France U21 squad for the upcoming international break. Gérald Baticle’s team has two European Championship qualifiers, facing Cyprus on October 11 and Austria on October 15.

However, Tel will now be unavailable for both matches. L’Équipe reports that the French forward is currently dealing with a minor shoulder injury. While the injury is not considered serious, it is enough to rule him out of participating in Les Bleuets’ upcoming games. This marks a setback for Tel, who had been called up to the France U21 squad for the international break.

His withdrawal from the team came shortly after Bayern Munich teammate Dayot Upamecano was pulled out of the senior squad due to a hamstring injury. The center-back’s absence will likely be a blow to the senior team as well, as both players were key figures for their respective squads.
