Rock Star’s Son Shines as Gnabry’s Experience Shows at Bayern

In a recent friendly match, the son of a rock legend made a notable appearance, showcasing his potential against Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry, a seasoned player at Bayern, demonstrated his deep understanding of the club’s competitive environment. Despite the ongoing competition and new signings, Gnabry’s experience remains a key asset for the team.

Rock Star’s Son Shines in Friendly Against Bayern Munich

The son of a renowned British rock star made an appearance against Bayern Munich in a friendly match after coming on as a substitute for the Austrian team WSG Tirol.

The 19-year-old took the field for the last four minutes of Bayern’s 3-0 win at Sportpark Unterhaching on Tuesday, going head-to-head with several superstars—truly against all odds.

Harry Kane scored the opening goal just three minutes into the game, and in the second half, summer signing Joao Palhinha and Gabriel Vidovic also added goals.

He called in to try and turn the game around for his team, but he couldn’t make a difference—though it’s unclear if he had much success in aerial duels.

The English teenager signed with WSG Tirol last summer. Still, the club was unaware at the time that his father was the legendary frontman.

He is Matthew Collins, son of the iconic Phil Collins. At 73, Phil Collins has five children, with Matthew being the youngest.

Collins Jr. began his career with Hannover’s U19 team but was released by the German club. He then impressed during a trial in Austria.

WSG Tirol competes in the top tier, but Collins frequently plays for their reserve team, WSG Tirol Juniors, which is in the fourth division.

Coach Manuel Ludwiger expressed his surprise at the player’s background: “We Google the players we take on trial to find out about their past careers.”

“It was only then that we found out Matthew is Phil Collins’ son.”

“We haven’t signed him as a publicity stunt. It is purely down to his footballing ability.”

Phil Collins isn’t Matthew’s only famous relative. His half-sister Lily has achieved significant success as an actress, mainly known for her leading role in “Emily in Paris.”

A few years ago, rock legend Phil shared insights about his son’s enthusiasm for sports.

‘Matt loves music but loves his football even more,’ Collins said. ‘He is certain he’ll turn professional. ‘The other day, he said, “Another five years and I’ll be gone.”

“He also looks at everything, Bundesliga, French league, everything.”

Serge Gnabry is an experienced player who knows what it takes to compete at Bayern Munich

At Bayern Munich, competition is a given. Despite the club’s “family” atmosphere, with former players holding prominent roles, every position is fiercely contested—except for goalkeeper, as long as Manuel Neuer is still around.

Serge Gnabry‘s role at the club is scrutinized each season, and it’s well-known that some key figures have frequently advocated for his sale this year. New signings like the dynamic French forward Michael Olise have joined the squad.

Despite this, Gnabry, who is about to begin his seventh season with the club (after a loan to TSG Hoffenheim in his first season in 2017), appears unfazed by the competition. According to @SkySportDE via @iMiaSanMia, he expressed the following when asked about it: “A club like FC Bayern has always signed good players and always had good players. There’s always competition. For me personally, I want to perform, play a good season and have success with the team again.”

Gnabry could maintain his success at Bayern under Vincent Kompany, as he has the right mindset to achieve it.
