Wanner’s Bayern Return and Aleix Garcia’s Confidence in Alonso

Paul Wanner’s potential return to Bayern Munich hinges on player transfers, with key departures needed to create space for the young midfielder. Meanwhile, Aleix Garcia, who joined Bayer Leverkusen from Girona, remains confident that manager Xabi Alonso will find a solution to the team’s recent struggles despite a disappointing run of form. Wanner’s future and Bayer’s recovery both depend on crucial decisions in the coming months.

Paul Wanner’s Bayern Return Depends on Transfers

Paul Wanner’s return to Bayern Munich is dependent on the future of several forwards and other players the club is reportedly targeting for next summer. The 18-year-old, currently on loan at FC Heidenheim in the Bundesliga, wants to be a regular starter rather than a bench option. He has already netted five goals this season.

Player Departures Could Make Room for the Young Talent

As per SportBild (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich needs to offload one of Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané, or Kingsley Coman for the 18-year-old to make his return.

Although Paul Wanner has occasionally featured as a winger, his primary role is as an attacking midfielder. Therefore, this condition is more about clearing space in the wage bill rather than finding a direct positional replacement. Wanner’s annual salary is around €2m, considerably lower than that of the wing trio.

Big Signings Could Hinder Wanner’s Desire to Return

The report also mentions that signing high-profile players like Florian Wirtz or Xavi Simons would reduce the chances of Wanner returning in the summer. With several top players competing for the number ten role, Wanner would struggle to find playing time, which could hamper his development. Even without the arrivals of Wirtz or Simons, securing a starting spot would be challenging for the young talent. However, he could still see a fair amount of action as the second-choice midfielder behind Jamal Musiala.

From Bayern’s point of view, they could save a significant amount by placing their trust in Wanner instead of pursuing expensive signings. While Wanner’s potential is promising, the ultimate decision lies with Bayern’s management, who will determine if he is ready to take the next major step in his career.

Top Bundesliga Clubs Are Interested in Wanner

With Wanner’s future at Bayern uncertain, clubs like Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig have expressed interest in signing the talented midfielder. However, the report indicates that Bayern still has plans for the 18-year-old and is not currently in talks with any other clubs.

Wanner is experiencing European football this season with Heidenheim in the Conference League, but his goal is to compete at the top level—the Champions League—with Bayern next season. While both the player and Bayern support his return, it will depend on various factors, which will become clearer as the 2025 summer transfer window draws closer.

‘Xabi Alonso will find a solution’ – Aleix Garcia

Bayer Leverkusen started strong with three wins in their first four Bundesliga matches, but they have since won only one of their last six. Their 1-1 draw last weekend marked their third consecutive stalemate in the league, leaving them nine points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich after 10 games.

Despite the recent results, Aleix Garcia, who arrived from Girona for €18m this summer, is confident that Bayer can bounce back and improve their form.  “We have to correct our mistakes, but the team has confidence, we are absolutely confident,” said the Spaniard.

With many team members on international duty, the outcome against Bochum has yet to be reviewed. “When all the players return from the international break, we will talk together. We will try to correct these mistakes, and I think that Xabi [Alonso] is a good coach and will find a solution,” added the 27-year-old.

According to kicker, Bayer Leverkusen have lost 11 points after taking the lead in the Bundesliga this season.

“We need a strong mentality now,” said Garcia. “Of course, we are now nine points behind Bayern, but the season is long, and I believe that we can improve. We have a lot of quality in this team and will fight for everything.”

After the international break, Bayer Leverkusen will play home matches against Heidenheim, St. Pauli, and Freiburg, along with away games at Union Berlin and Augsburg to finish the year.
