The club has also announced that he will wear the No. 10 shirt.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Xavi Simons has informed Bayern Munich, Leipzig’s Bundesliga rivals, that he will not move to their club. He made this decision after receiving interest from Bayern and multiple Premier League teams. Simons’ choice to stay with Leipzig reflects his commitment to his current squad and his intention to continue developing in the Bundesliga.
Manchester United was one of the teams that was interested, but the 21-year-old returned to Leipzig.
“I got everything I wanted from my move to Leipzig. I joined a great team and felt everyone’s trust and belief in me,” said Simons after returning to Germany.
“I was able to develop as both a player and a person – RB Leipzig is the perfect place for you to do that.”
“On top of that, the club really value me and made it clear over the last few months that they would like to sign me. I’m extremely motivated to keep on improving and to play my part in the club’s success.
“I feel right at home here in Leipzig, and I’m extremely happy to be able to play for this club and for these fans for another year. I’m ready to make history!”
The move comes after Simons impressed at Euro 2024, starting five of the six matches for the Netherlands as they reached the semi-finals.
Simons made a significant impact during his first stint at the Red Bull Arena, scoring ten goals and providing 15 assists for the Bundesliga team.
He scored in the 2-1 semi-final loss to England and recorded three assists in the 3-2 group-stage loss to Austria and the 3-0 round-of-16 win against Romania.
Simons has quickly advanced in his young career, moving up from Barcelona’s youth teams before joining PSG.
After spending a single season with PSV Eindhoven, Xavi Simons returned to Paris in July 2023. Shortly after, he began his first loan spell with Leipzig, marking a new chapter in his career.
Simons has won several significant awards, including the Ligue 1 title and domestic cups in France and the Netherlands. His success in these competitions highlights his skill and contributions to his teams.
Simons has played 20 times for the Netherlands in total. He first appeared for the senior team during the 2022 World Cup in the round-of-16 match against the United States. The Dutch team won 3-1.
