Nottingham Forest is gearing up for their upcoming match against Newcastle United, with key player James Ward-Prowse returning after being ineligible for the previous game. However, the team will be without midfield duo Danilo and Ibrahima Sangare, both sidelined due to long-term injuries. Forest have been in excellent form, winning their last three matches and climbing to third in the Premier League. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who won the October Manager of the Month award, remains focused on his team’s progress, highlighting the collective effort from the club’s owner to staff.
Nottingham Forest Star Clear About His Goals
Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels has made it clear he has no intention of retiring from Belgium’s national team and is focused on securing the number one position.
Voetbalkrant reports on comments from the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper, expressing his pride in his recent call-up.
Sels has secured his spot as Nottingham Forest’s top goalkeeper since joining from Strasbourg in an €8m transfer at the end of the January window.
This season, he’s shown he deserves that role, with Nottingham Forest off to a strong start and him recording four clean sheets in ten Premier League matches.
His performance has secured him a spot in Belgium’s squad for the upcoming international break, offering a chance to add to his eight caps since his debut in June 2021.
Belgium’s goalkeeper position is currently uncertain after Thibaut Courtois publicly declared he would not be available for selection under the present management.
Koen Casteels seems to be Domenico Tedesco’s current choice, but Sels remains determined, encouraged by Nottingham Forest’s stellar start to the season.
“I am still very proud when I am called up and will never consciously skip an international match,” he said.
“I already had that feeling with the national youth teams, and it has not changed yet. I also just want to play as many international matches as possible. For me, that remains the greatest honor you can receive as a footballer.
“Every player who is called up has the ambition to play. We shouldn’t be shy about that. Of course I want to become the Red Devils’ first goalkeeper. It would be crazy for me to say otherwise. But I will never question the choice of the national coach.
“In the end, I can only do my best and seize my opportunity when I get it. Fortunately, I don’t think I have ever been disappointed under this national coach. Everything is also going well at Nottingham. Oh well, we’ll see.”
Forest Midfield Duo Out vs Newcastle; Ward-Prowse Returns
In-form Nottingham Forest is completing its preparations for tomorrow’s match against Newcastle United. They head into the game on a strong run, having won three consecutive matches to climb to third in the Premier League.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side has earned 19 points from their first 10 matches, with only one loss. Nuno will have James Ward-Prowse available for the upcoming match against Newcastle at the City Ground on Sunday, with a 2pm kick-off. The England international was unavailable for the previous match against his parent club, West Ham United.
However, the forest manager will be without Danilo and Ibrahim Sangare, as both are sidelined for long-term injury.
Midfielder Danilo sustained a broken ankle early in the season opener against Bournemouth. After an awkward fall while contesting the ball, he required surgery. Forest remain optimistic that he will return to training next month.
Sangare, on the other hand, is recovering from hamstring surgery. The midfielder picked up the injury before the September international break.
When asked about Danilo and Sangare last week, Nuno replied: “They are getting better day by day. They don’t stop working because they do treatment and work on other fitness aspects. They are both on track.”
Nuno was named October’s Manager of the Month after Forest’s excellent start to the season. “I’m very proud of the way we’ve been doing things,” he said. “All of us – starting from the owner to the staff in the training ground. Everybody has been working very hard, and it’s very nice to be recognized. I think it’s an effort from the club.”
