Ferdi Kadioglu has been dropped from the Turkish national squad due to injury, with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announcing his exclusion. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho, who has been linked with a return to the Premier League, has been urged to leave the Turkish Super Lig by Galatasaray’s captain. Mourinho’s return to English football is a growing possibility, with speculation surrounding both Newcastle United and Everton as potential destinations, despite his current struggles in Turkey with Fenerbahce.
Kadioglu Dropped from Türkiye Squad Due to Injury
Ferdi Kadioglu has been excluded from the Turkish national team due to injury, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) confirmed on Tuesday.
“Ferdi Kadioglu has been dropped from Türkiye’s team due to a capsule tear in his left big toe,” the federation said in a statement.
The TFF announced that Freiburg winger Eren Dinkci and Kasimpasa defender Yasin Ozcan have been added to the squad.
In August, Brighton & Hove Albion secured full-back Kadioglu from Fenerbahce on a four-year deal.
Kadioglu, 25, earned 22 caps for Türkiye and recently participated in EURO 2024 from June to July.
The Turkish national team is set to play against Wales on Nov. 16 and Montenegro on Nov. 19 in UEFA Nations League Group B4.
Türkiye leads Group B4 with 10 points, followed by Wales with eight. Iceland sits third with four points, while Montenegro remains at the bottom with zero points.
Mourinho’s Premier League Return Urged After Super Lig Exit
Galatasaray’s captain has urged Jose Mourinho to leave the Turkish Super Lig amid speculations of a Premier League return.
The Special One last appeared in England’s top flight in 2021 with Tottenham, where he was dismissed just days before the EFL Cup final. This departure followed a mixed tenure at Manchester United, after which he had won three league titles across two stints with Chelsea.
The 61-year-old has faced challenges since his second stint at Stamford Bridge. He was dismissed by Roma earlier this year despite guiding them to the Conference League trophy in 2022. Mourinho returned to management this summer with Fenerbahce, who are now five points behind rivals Galatasaray. The Portuguese manager has grown increasingly frustrated and critical of the league and its referees.
Mourinho, who has been rumored to return to the Premier League with Newcastle, has now been advised by Galatasaray’s captain to leave the league.
“The insults towards Turkish football and the fact that he is attacking some referees are things that bother me,” Gala captain Muslera told Turkiye Today.
“This is the first time in 14 years that I feel obliged to make such a speech. I won 17 trophies in 14 years. If we consider my contribution, my constant aim is to advance Turkish football.
“If Mourinho, who came here 4 months ago, criticizes Turkish football and doesn’t like it, he can leave. Although nobody says anything, I think now someone can say something to him. We need to pay a little more attention to those who move Turkish football forward.”
Based on recent remarks, it appears Mourinho would be open to the idea. After Fenerbahce’s 1-1 draw against his former club United in the Europa League, Mourinho suggested that a return to English football is something he’s considering.
“The best thing I have to do is when I leave Fener is that I go to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competition. So, a club at the bottom in England who needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go,” the Portuguese stated.
The Guardian reports that Mourinho has been in touch with intermediaries, requesting updates on the situation at St. James’s Park. He is reportedly eyeing the Newcastle United job should Eddie Howe leave for any reason. While Everton has also been linked with the 61-year-old in recent months, a move to Merseyside appears unlikely.
