Man City Faces Rule Review, Transfer Decisions, and Key Player Absence

Manchester City is currently dealing with multiple issues. The club’s alleged 115 rule breaches are reportedly being reviewed sooner than expected. At the same time, City faces crucial decisions regarding transfers, with Rodri’s potential move raising new concerns. Additionally, the team is set to be without a key player for their upcoming match against Chelsea, as he has not yet returned to training.

Man City’s supposed 115 rule breaches are reportedly being reviewed sooner

It’s still unclear how severe the punishment for City could be if they are found guilty, but losing points or even being relegated are possible outcomes.

According to a report, Manchester City’s hearing on 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules has been moved up to next month.

The independent commission, initially set to begin in November and run for ten weeks, reportedly starts in mid-to-late September. A verdict is expected early in 2025.

Neither the Premier League nor Manchester City has provided any comment.

The Times reports that the result of a separate legal case filed by City against the league’s rules on transactions with associated parties—where clubs make sponsorship or revenue deals with businesses linked to their owners—is expected within the next two weeks.

It is claimed that this has enabled the hearing for the 115 charges—which the City denies—to be moved up as long as there are no additional legal delays.

It’s not clear yet how severe the punishment for City might be if they are found guilty, but losing points or even being sent down to a lower league are possible outcomes.

Man City is expected to be missing a key player for the Chelsea opener, as he has not returned to training yet

Manchester City star Rodri may miss their Premier League opener. The midfielder has yet to return to training.

The Euro 2024 winner has been a critical player in Pep Guardiola’s midfield but received an extended break after his success with Spain. He is expected to return to training on Wednesday, leaving him little time to prepare and potentially missing the clash with Chelsea.

The Euro 2024 winner has been a crucial part of Pep Guardiola’s midfield but took an extended break after his success with Spain. He’s not expected to be back in training until Wednesday, so he might not have enough time to prepare and could miss the game against Chelsea.

They lost just three times last season, and all those defeats happened when Rodri was absent. The only time they lost in regular time was in the FA Cup final, where Manchester United unexpectedly defeated their local rivals.

Guardiola has brought England trio Kyle Walker, John Stones, and Phil Foden back into training. They were given additional time off after their journey to the Euros final.

Some players began in the Community Shield at Wembley after only a few training sessions. Guardiola has previously praised Walker and Foden for quickly regaining fitness and adapting to matchday demands, even after time off.

Under Guardiola, City have won seven of their eight opening-day matches. Their only defeat came in 2021 against Tottenham. The Catalan usually sees his team make an ideal start to the season.

They started the season perfectly by winning the Community Shield on Saturday. Bernardo Silva’s equalizer in the 89th minute took the match to penalties. Jonny Evans’ missed penalty in the shootout allowed Manuel Akanji to score the decisive spot-kick.

Guardiola said: “I enjoyed starting the season against our rival in Manchester – and to win a title is good. We are really pleased. We could have lost today. We were close to losing with minutes left. I saw many things today that I liked. The first 35 minutes were beyond excellent.‌ Many players are still on holidays so we are far from our best. But it is better starting by winning a trophy.”

Man City ‘must decide’ on Kalvin Phillips as new warning about Rodri’s transfer surfaces

Real Madrid is said to have singled out Manchester City star Rodri as a target to strengthen their midfield soon.

According to Caught Offside, the Spanish giants are strong admirers of Rodri and see him as an ideal long-term replacement for German legend Toni Kroos, who has retired. However, it’s believed that Rodri is a candidate for the future, so Real Madrid may wait until next summer to try to persuade City to make a deal.

Suppose Pep Guardiola departs at the end of the season. In that case, it might create an opportunity for Rodri to leave the Etihad after six years. Guardiola, who is a big admirer of Rodri and felt he was overlooked for player of the season last year, said: “He’s been one of the best… what is important is he knows what we think, his importance, and the magnificent, extraordinary player that he is.”
