Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly eyeing a return to Manchester United, with speculation intensifying as Jadon Sancho’s potential transfer to the Premier League continues to gather momentum. Ronaldo’s possible comeback to Old Trafford has been a topic of discussion. At the same time, Sancho, who has faced recent transfer rumors, may be set for a move before the deadline.
Cristiano Ronaldo tipped for Manchester United return as Saudi star seeks unfinished business
A former Manchester United player has hinted that Cristiano Ronaldo might make an impressive comeback to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese football maestro, renowned for his brilliant first spell with Manchester United, faced challenges during his second stint. This period he ended in a contentious departure following Ronaldo’s explosive revelations on the Piers Morgan show.
Although Cristiano Ronaldo, now playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and approaching his 40th birthday, has not revealed any plans to retire or relinquish his captain’s armband before the 2026 World Cup, former forward Louis Saha has still weighed in on the Real Madrid legend’s future.
Ronaldo’s unexpected display of ‘sideline management’ during Portugal’s Euro 2016 victory generated considerable buzz, but he has remained silent about any ambitions to lead from the sidelines. Despite this, Saha believes Ronaldo’s relentless dedication and passion might eventually lead him to take charge at Old Trafford.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has the passion and dedication to return to Manchester United one day,” Saha confided to TVSporten. “That could be as a coach or even a manager,” reports the Mirror.
Ronaldo’s return to the club won’t be highlighted by his recent stint, which was marred by frequent managerial changes and pointed criticisms of the club’s leadership, culminating in his departure in November 2022. His candid interview with Morgan, where he criticized manager Erik ten Hag and younger teammates, is the final factor ending his second tenure at United.
Despite this, Ronaldo scored 27 goals in 54 appearances during that time, earning a special place in the hearts of United fans. His tenure with Al Nassr has been a mixed bag, though he did net 35 goals in his debut season.
He’s expected to stay put this season, but there’s ongoing speculation about his future. Ronaldo’s former Manchester United teammate suggests that CR7 might consider a move into management, provided he sharpens his people skills.
“Now he will know that he needs to find a new way to communicate when he becomes a coach,” Saha said. “Which maybe isn’t as harsh or direct as it was when he was at the club.
“He will work out how to be successful and use all his knowledge to do that; we’ve seen Roy Keane go into management and succeed. Cristiano will understand what he needs to do as a manager. I see no reason why he wouldn’t be a success.”
Manchester United sense’ Jadon Sancho could make Premier League transfer before deadline
Manchester United officials feel Chelsea might still attempt to acquire Jadon Sancho before the transfer deadline.
The winger has returned to Old Trafford following his loan stint at Borussia Dortmund. This stint occurred after a public dispute with manager Erik ten Hag. Since then, the two have resolved their issues, and Sancho has rejoined the first team this season.
There’s speculation about him leaving, as PSG has shown interest in the player throughout the summer. He joined Manchester for £70 million in 2021. Saudi Arabian clubs are also mentioned as potential buyers, but Chelsea is still keen on him.
The Athletic reports that Manchester United officials think Chelsea might make a late bid for Sancho as they continue to invest heavily in their squad. Despite already adding Pedro Neto and with Joao Felix set to join, Chelsea could still pursue Sancho.
The Englishman has been disappointing since returning to the Premier League. He was one of Europe’s top performers during his initial stint at Dortmund. Still, he has managed only 12 goals in 83 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions.
United are prepared to accept a significant loss on Sancho, setting his price tag at £40 million. His decline in recent years has led to him losing his place in the England squad. Chelsea and Manchester United recently completed a transfer when Mason Mount moved from west London to Manchester.
Sancho played in the Community Shield at Wembley, missing a penalty as Manchester City won the trophy. However, he was left out of the Premier League opener against Fulham, with Ten Hag saying it was due to illness.
He said, “First of all, we need squad depth. It is a season of survival of the fittest. Jadon, in the week, had an ear infection and wasn’t 100 percent fit. He could play, but we preferred other players. That will change in the season when we need to rotate. Sometimes, it is frustrating for the player. But every player will get his chance.”
