Mohamed Salah has shared valuable advice he received from Arsène Wenger, which highlights the importance of seizing opportunities. As Liverpool aims to strengthen their midfield, the need for action in January is clear. With a title challenge at stake and Manchester City likely to reinforce their squad, the Reds must act decisively to maintain their competitive edge and ensure stability in the second half of the season.
Salah Reveals Advice He Got from Arsène Wenger
Egypt’s gifted playmaker has risen to be one of the Premier League’s most formidable players during his seven years at Anfield, netting more than 200 goals in 366 appearances for Liverpool. His on-field ability has solidified his reputation as one of the top wingers globally, trailing only Bukayo Saka in league assists this season.
Although Salah has been coached by iconic figures like Jurgen Klopp, who left the Merseyside club earlier this year, it’s the advice from a rival manager that has truly stuck with him.
“I got advice from Arsene Wenger before,” he recently told Liverpool’s media channel. “He was at Melwood [Liverpool’s training ground] at that time, then I asked him what’s the difference between a good player and a really good player.
“He said, ‘I think the very, very good player is always focused on the game. Even if he doesn’t have the momentum, he stays in the game until the last minute or until the whistle’.
“So that’s, I think, for me, I know there’s some games I don’t have momentum, I don’t have the game. But I’m always focused on the game to finish stuff. I always find the moment. I’m not always very good in the game. It’s normal. We’re still human.”
This season, Salah’s determination to make an impact in every match has been evident. Eight of his ten goals have come in the second half, with half of them scored in the final 20 minutes of games.

Liverpool Needs to Take Action in January to Ensure Midfield Stability
As the Premier League season restarts in the coming week, Liverpool faces a crucial period. Despite a strong start, there are concerns that the current midfield depth may fall short of sustaining a title challenge. With City expected to strengthen in January, the pressure is mounting on the Reds. Jamie Carragher’s blunt warning and James Pearce’s thoughtful analysis highlight the urgency and potential for Liverpool.
Liverpool’s Midfield Bet: Is the Risk Too High?
Liverpool’s interest in Martín Zubimendi during the summer revealed their recognition of a possible midfield weakness. The club was reportedly ready to trigger Zubimendi’s £51 million release clause, but the Spaniard chose to remain at Real Sociedad. Instead, they turned to Ryan Gravenberch, who has impressed beyond expectations, playing every minute in both the Premier League and Champions League so far. While Gravenberch’s performances have been exceptional, relying on him for the entirety of the season is a risky move that could backfire. This wasn’t something that was anticipated or part of the plan.
Jamie Carragher was blunt in his assessment: “If I was Liverpool, I would be doing that (strengthening in January)… Zubimendi is the player he wanted, they ended up putting Gravenberch there who has been fantastic, but if he is the player you want – go and do it – you might never be in this position.”
City’s Possible Signings Could Increase the Gap
History shows that Manchester City are unlikely to remain inactive in January. They have a track record of spotting and securing key additions at the right moment, and all signs suggest they will do so once more. As Carragher noted, “You might be here three years, but City are City, and they are five points ahead of you at Christmas. Just make it count.”
The tendency of Liverpool’s rivals to make smart mid-season moves highlights the need for the Reds to act swiftly. Failing to strengthen in January could see them fall behind a City team that’s expected to step up in the second half of the season. There’s a clear purpose and determination behind City’s approach, and Liverpool must follow suit.
