Barcelona is facing uncertainty ahead of their Sevilla match, with midfielder Frenkie de Jong doubtful due to a muscle issue. Meanwhile, Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has praised Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, calling him a “phenomenon” while acknowledging his potential for further development. Both players are in the spotlight as their respective teams manage their fitness and future prospects.
Barcelona Midfielder Doubtful for Sevilla Due to Injury
Barcelona may face a setback before their Sevilla match, with Frenkie de Jong uncertain due to muscle discomfort.
A recent report from Adria Albets states that this issue is not related to the ankle injury that has kept him out for more than five months.
Although he has successfully recovered from his long-term injury, the Dutch midfielder is now dealing with a fresh concern that could potentially prevent him from being included in the squad for the upcoming match. This new issue has raised doubts about his fitness, and the final decision will depend on how his condition progresses in the coming days.
A Decision Will Be Made Tomorrow
The final call on de Jong’s availability will be made tomorrow morning after the medical team and coaching staff assess his condition to see if he’s fit to play.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick intended to start de Jong in the upcoming match, but his plans were disrupted when the midfielder had to leave a training session early because of discomfort.
In his press conference, Flick admitted that he had planned to start de Jong against Sevilla. However, after Friday’s training session was interrupted, the manager had to rethink his strategy.
“We have to see him tomorrow. He felt some discomfort yesterday, he started with the group today, but then he was sidelined. I wanted to start him, but we’ll see,” said the manager.
Need for Caution
Considering the player’s recent injury history, the decision to rest him is understandable, particularly since prioritizing his fitness is important.
De Jong made his season debut in Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League match against Young Boys, where he played the last 15 minutes. He also appeared as a substitute in the match against Alaves, playing just nine minutes.
Given that Sevilla is a key match, the decision to include de Jong will depend on how his condition develops, but the priority is to prevent any further injury setbacks.
Considering the circumstances, it’s likely that Flick will choose to exclude him from the squad if any fitness concerns persist.
Luis de la Fuente Calls Barcelona’s Yamal a “Phenomenon”
Barcelona and the Spanish Football Federation clashed last weekend over Lamine Yamal, who picked up an injury during the win over Denmark. The Catalan club insisted that their player be removed from Luis de la Fuente‘s squad immediately, and despite initial resistance, the decision was made, causing him to miss the victory against Serbia on Tuesday.
De la Fuente refrained from commenting on the issue when speaking to the public on Saturday, but he praised Lamine Yamal highly, according to MD. He also offered valuable advice to the 17-year-old.
“He is a phenomenon who is already at the top of the world, but he has the most difficult thing left, which is to maintain the position he has. He will achieve it with humility, being normal, professional, hard-working, and a good teammate. If he does that, we will remember him a lot – he has the ability, but he has to cultivate it.”
There’s no question that Lamine Yamal is a world-class talent, but he has plenty of room for growth. Barcelona, along with Spain and de la Fuente, will need to manage his development carefully.
