Barcelona is working to secure the signing of Wojciech Szczesny and is seeking La Liga’s approval to proceed. The club aims to utilize Article 77, allowing them to allocate 80% of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s salary for Szczesny’s registration. This strategic move would facilitate the goalkeeper’s arrival and create the necessary funds to register Dani Olmo for the remainder of the season, as he is currently signed only until January.
Barcelona Seeks La Liga’s Nod for Szczesny Signing
Barcelona is looking to quickly replace Marc-Andre Ter Stegen after the German goalkeeper suffered a season-ending knee injury. They have chosen former Arsenal and Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as his replacement, and an agreement with the 34-year-old has already been reached.

Barcelona is eager to finalize Wojciech Szczesny’s arrival next week, although this timeline remains uncertain. While a medical has been scheduled for Monday, La Liga is currently holding up the deal due to what they describe as “technical problems,” adding an element of unpredictability to the situation.
According to reports from Sport, Barcelona is actively working to expedite this process to secure Szczesny’s registration as soon as possible. The club has officially requested La Liga to activate Article 77, which would allow them to allocate 80% of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s salary toward registering Szczesny. This strategic move is not only crucial for bringing in the experienced goalkeeper. Still, it is also expected to create enough financial leeway to register Dani Olmo for the rest of the season. Currently, Olmo is signed only until January, and this arrangement would ensure his continued presence in the squad.
Barcelona Has Used Article 77 for Player Registrations
Flick rested four regular starters on Saturday evening during their away match at El Sadar. Considering this season’s demanding football schedule, the Germans gave Inigo Martinez, Alejandro Balde, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal a break. Barca Atletic’s Sergi Dominguez and Gerard Martin filled in on defense. At the same time, Pau Victor and Ferran Torres joined Robert Lewandowski in the attack.
In the first half hour, Barcelona recognized Osasuna’s counterattacking strength as Ante Budimir and Bryan Zaragoza scored to put the hosts ahead 2-0. Although Pau Victor responded with a goal for the visitors, Budimir scored again, followed by Abel Bretones, who extended Osasuna’s lead despite a late goal from Yamal. Flick has defended his heavy rotation decision while taking responsibility for the loss.
What Flick Said
Speaking to the media, Flick said, “We have to accept this loss. We didn’t play well. I take responsibility. It wasn’t a good game. We made a lot of mistakes. We made a lot of rotations to the team, and maybe that’s one reason why, but they were necessary. There were a lot of games and a lot of minutes accumulated.

“I told the team that I am responsible. We have an important match on Tuesday, and we’re on the right track. After the international break, many players will return, and we will have more to choose from. The many rotations are no excuse, but we had no other option. It’s my responsibility to take care of the players, and some of them had played too many minutes. Their rest was necessary.”
The Catalan team will now focus on their second Champions League group stage match against Young Boys, aiming to secure their first points in the tournament following a disappointing defeat to Monaco. Speaking about the game, Flick said: “I’m very excited for the Champions League match. We need to get our first win, but it won’t be easy. Young Boys are very fast, and we’ll need to deal with them.”
