Bayern Not Pursuing €45M Barcelona Target, Club Watches Winger

Bayern Munich has reportedly ruled out pursuing the €45M-rated Barcelona target, leaving the field clearer for other clubs. Meanwhile, Barcelona is closely monitoring the progress of their former winger, Francisco Trincão, who has been impressing at Sporting CP with a standout start to the season. As part of the deal that sent him to Portugal, Barcelona secured both a buyback and sell-on clause, giving them an option to act should Trincão continue to perform well.

Bayern Munich Not Keen on €45M-Rated Barcelona Target

Diogo Costa has become a primary target for Barcelona ahead of the summer of 2025 as the club looks to plan for a long-term replacement for Marc-Andre ter Stegen in goal.

The 25-year-old Portuguese international is reportedly Barcelona’s top priority for director Deco, though his pursuit has been hindered by the club’s financial constraints.

Additionally, Costa is reportedly drawing interest from clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich, which adds to the complexity of the situation.

One Rival Eliminated

Barcelona may now have one less rival in the race for Costa, as Florian Plettenberg reports that Bayern Munich is no longer interested in signing the FC Porto goalkeeper.

Although the 25-year-old is currently one of Europe’s top goalkeepers, Bayern Munich is not considering a move for him, and reports linking him to the club are inaccurate.

Therefore, a move to Munich in the summer transfer window now seems unlikely, reducing the number of clubs Barcelona would have to compete with.

However, Costa’s reported valuation of €40-50 million remains a major obstacle for Barcelona, who will once again be working with a limited budget in the summer.

If Chelsea and Manchester City are truly interested, they would be in a far stronger position to meet Porto’s asking price for the goalkeeper.

It will be interesting to see whether Barcelona continue their pursuit of Costa or shift focus to alternatives, with players like Mio Backhaus and Bart Verbruggen also under consideration.

Barcelona’ Keeping an Eye on Progress of Club’s Former Winger

The decision-makers at Barcelona are closely monitoring Francisco Trincão’s progress at Sporting CP.

This information comes from Diario Sport, who offered an update on the situation on Saturday.

Forward Trincão, for his part, has made an excellent start to the new season.

Finally returning to his impressive form at Portuguese giants Sporting CP, the 24-year-old has directly been involved in 10 goals in 10 league appearances during the 2024/25 season.

This includes a league-leading total of seven assists in Liga Portugal.

As mentioned earlier, Trincão’s standout performances this season have not gone unnoticed, particularly by one of his former clubs—Barcelona. The 24-year-old’s remarkable form at Sporting CP, which includes a strong assist tally and overall contributions, has sparked interest back at the Camp Nou.

As part of the deal that saw the Portuguese winger join Sporting on a permanent transfer in the summer of 2023, Barcelona secured both a buyback clause and a sell-on clause in the contract. These provisions ensure that Barcelona has the option to re-sign Trincão if his performances continue to impress or benefit from a potential future sale. This strategic move allows Barcelona to keep a close eye on Trincão’s progress and possibly bring him back to the club should the opportunity arise while also ensuring they are compensated if another club makes a move for him in the future.

And, as per Sport:

‘Barça is confident that Trincao’s progression will continue to rise so that Sporting can consider a transfer, from which they would get half of the profits.’
