Chelsea had agreed to a £34.5m transfer of Samu Omorodion, but the deal collapsed because of unforeseen contractual issues.
Conor Gallagher was on the verge of a £36m transfer to Atletico Madrid. Still, that move is now in doubt due to the recent breakdown of the Omorodion deal. The collapse of Omorodion’s transfer has introduced significant uncertainty into Gallagher’s potential move, leaving the situation in the air.
In light of these developments, Chelsea is actively working to bring Joao Felix back from Atletico Madrid. The club is engaged in detailed negotiations to secure his return, aiming to bolster their squad with the talented forward once again.
Conor Gallagher flew back to England on Tuesday night after spending five days in limbo over his transfer to Madrid
Conor Gallagher’s £36m transfer to Atletico Madrid is on hold. This situation arose after the deal for Samu Omorodion to move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea fell through on Sunday. Omorodion’s transfer collapse has directly impacted Gallagher’s proposed move.
Gallagher had completed his medical examination and agreed to a five-year contract with Atletico Madrid after arriving in the city late last week.
The midfielder was photographed at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, and the club captured these images. Additionally, various Spanish media outlets observed him around Madrid, further fueling speculation about his transfer, which generated considerable buzz and interest regarding his potential move.
Chelsea is now working to secure the signing of Joao Felix. Still, his price tag is significantly higher than the £34.5m agreed for Omorodion.
Sources in Spain suggest that Atletico Madrid is seeking more than £50m for Felix. Chelsea did not keep the player, who scored four goals in 20 appearances while on loan during the latter part of the 2022/23 season, after appointing Mauricio Pochettino.
We expect to resolve Gallagher’s future before the transfer window closes on August 30. Despite the current uncertainty, a transfer to Atletico Madrid remains a potential outcome.
However, Atletico Madrid requires additional funds to finalize the deal as it continues to navigate financial regulations imposed by UEFA and LaLiga.
LaLiga sets personalized spending limits for each club at the beginning of every season, guiding their financial activities throughout the year.
Omorodion’s transfer fell through because of contractual issues, yet this did not stop Atletico from completing the signing of Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez for £82m on Monday.
Omorodion netted eight goals in 35 La Liga matches last season while on loan at Alaves.
On Sunday, Chelsea revealed their 10th summer signing: Wolves winger Pedro Neto. The club completed the substantial £54m transfer, adding Neto to their roster. His arrival marks a significant investment in strengthening the squad for the upcoming season.
During this transfer window, the Blues also signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu, and Tosin Adarabioyo.
In addition, Chelsea has arranged a transfer for Palmeiras’ teenager Estevao Willian. The promising young talent is set to join the club next summer. His arrival is anticipated to bring a fresh and exciting dynamic to the team, further bolstering Chelsea’s squad with emerging talent.
However, Chelsea has yet to finalize a new contract with Gallagher, who came through the academy at Cobham and has only one year left on his current deal.
Gallagher turned down a transfer to Aston Villa earlier in the window, and Tottenham has also expressed interest.
In the meantime, Broja is ready to make a transfer to Stuttgart. The German club is currently in the early stages of discussions to secure the Chelsea striker’s services.
This summer, it has also been reported that Broja is on the shortlists of Everton, Southampton, and other clubs.
