Former Real Madrid player Luka Jovic will miss tonight’s Champions League match against his old club, as he was not included in AC Milan’s squad. Meanwhile, Real Madrid have registered three young talents—Jesus Fortea, Hugo de Llanos, and Yanez—for their Champions League B squad, with Fortea reportedly in line for a first-team promotion. Whether he will feature in upcoming matches remains uncertain.
Ex-Real Madrid Star Can’t Play for AC Milan Tonight
AC Milan received a huge boost ahead of tonight’s Champions League match against Real Madrid, with star striker Tammy Abraham declared fit to play.
Abraham’s presence could prove vital, particularly as Rafael Leao’s relationship with manager Paulo Fonseca has soured. As a result, Milan will gladly embrace any attacking option available.
Sadly for the Rossoneri, they’ll be without an attacker who is well-acquainted with playing at the Santiago Bernabeu: Luka Jovic.
Luka Jovic is Unavailable to Play Against Real Madrid
Jovic will miss the chance to face his former club, as he has not been included in AC Milan’s Champions League squad.
However, Milan may have already factored this in, as Jovic has played very little football this season, appearing in only three league matches.
The Serbian, formerly of Real Madrid, joined Milan in 2023 for a fee of just half a million. He had a solid debut season, netting nine goals across all competitions.
This season, however, Jovic has played very little, mainly due to an injury that has kept him out of the last five league matches.
Jovic’s knack for getting into dangerous attacking positions could have been valuable for the Rossoneri. In fact, pairing him with former Real Madrid teammate Alvaro Morata in a two-striker setup might have boosted Milan’s chances of success.
Jovic would have had the perfect chance to make an impact against his former club.
The Serbian signed with Real Madrid in 2019 for a significant €63 million. However, his time at the Bernabeu was plagued by underwhelming performances and injuries.
He netted just three goals in 51 competitive appearances for Real Madrid before leaving the club permanently in 2022.
Real Madrid Register Three Young Talents for Champions League
Real Madrid are beginning to address Dani Carvajal’s injury, with Carlo Ancelotti focusing more on fixing the team’s defensive issues.
Ancelotti has received heavy criticism for not using the young talents emerging from La Fabrica, but it seems the Italian is finally beginning to heed the critics’ calls.
Real Madrid Add Three Youngsters to UCL B Squad
According to Rodra P, Real Madrid has included Jesus Fortea in the Champions League B squad for their match against AC Milan.
Fortea, a former Atletico Madrid prospect, is considered one of the most talented fullbacks in the Real Madrid academy.
In fact, the youngster was seen as one of the possible beneficiaries of Carvajal’s long-term injury. However, he never featured in a competitive match for Los Blancos.
Recently, Fortea has caught the attention of the coaching staff and is reportedly on track for a promotion to the first team.
It appears Real Madrid has included Fortea in the B squad alongside other young talents like Hugo de Llanos and Yanez.
The three players join Yusi, Jacobo Ramon, Asencio, David Jimenez, and Antonio David in the B squad.
Teams in the Champions League can include an unlimited number of players in the B squad, provided they meet the required criteria.
One of the requirements is that the player must be born after 2003 and have been with the club for at least two years.
In this regard, Fortea joined the Real Madrid Academy in the summer of 2022, a move that ended the non-aggression agreement between the club and city rivals Atletico Madrid.
It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will use Fortea in the upcoming Champions League matches.
