Olmo and Christensen Out for Barcelona

Dani Olmo and Andreas Christensen will miss Barcelona’s upcoming match against Athletic Club. Olmo is sidelined due to a registration issue, while Christensen is out with Achilles tendinitis.

Dani Olmo won’t play in the Barcelona-Athletic game due to a registration issue

Dani Olmo had to miss Saturday’s LaLiga match against Athletic Club because Barcelona couldn’t get him registered in time.

Olmo, 26, moved to Barça from RB Leipzig earlier this summer for an initial €55 million ($61.6m), but his registration with the league is still pending due to the club’s ongoing financial issues.

Despite being over their league-imposed spending limit, Barça is determined to overcome their financial challenges. To register new players, they are exploring options to either cut their wage bill or boost revenue, demonstrating their resilience in the face of adversity.

As a result of Olmo’s absence, Barça had to adjust their tactics in the opening-day victory over Valencia last weekend.

There is a noticeable sense of anticipation as Olmo has been included in the squad for the match against Athletic, with his participation hinging on the completion of his registration with LaLiga, a process that is currently uncertain.

Barcelona defeated Athletic 2-0, but when asked if Olmo would be registered in time for the next game against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday, coach Hansi Flick replied, “I don’t know. Of course I hope so. These things we have to accept because we can’t change it. We know it’s not easy when we signed here, but focus on what we want to do. Today, we wanted to win 3 points and did it.”

Barça was working on several player departures to make sure Olmo is available for Flick on Saturday.

Ilkay Gündogan’s move to Manchester City has already been confirmed, and Clément Lenglet, Mikayil Faye, and Vitor Roque are also nearing departures.

Sources told ESPN that Lenglet will extend his contract until 2027, redistributing his remaining salary over two years instead of three. He will then join Atlético Madrid on a season-long loan.

Defender Faye is expected to move to French club Rennes for an initial €14m. The deal includes additional clauses and add-ons that would give Barça the option to re-sign the young Senegalese international in the future.

Roque will head to Real Betis on loan after struggling to secure a spot in Barça’s first team following his €35m move from Club Athletico Paranaense in January.

In other news, midfielder Fermín López has been included in the Barça squad for the first time this season after a break following his successful performances with Spain at the European Championships and the Olympic Games this summer.

Andreas Christensen is missing due to an Achilles issue and is anticipated to be out for several weeks, affecting Barcelona’s defensive lineup.

“I think he cannot help the team [at the moment], and he knows that,” Flick said in a news conference on Friday. “Last year, he made many games only 60 minutes with problems. Now we take care of that.”

Barça is also missing long-term absentees Ronald Araújo, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and Ansu Fati.

Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen Out with Achilles Tendinitis

Spanish reports indicate that Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen is expected to be sidelined for up to two months due to an Achilles tendon injury.

“(Christensen) has tendinitis in his left Achilles,” Barcelona stated without providing an estimate for his return.

Barcelona will be without center-back Ronald Araujo until November due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the Copa America this summer.
