Barcelona Midfield Star Welcomes New Arrival: ‘We get along very well’
Barcelona’s Pedri played a crucial role as a regular starter for Spain in their recent European Championship victory. However, an unfortunate injury sidelined him and cut short his on-field contributions during the tournament.
Ironically, the player who stepped in for him in Luis de La Fuente’s lineup was Barcelona’s soon-to-be signing Dani Olmo, who became one of the tournament’s joint top scorers.
Although they compete for similar positions on the field, Pedri and Olmo maintain a strong rapport and have spent time together in the dressing room on several occasions.
It goes without saying that the midfield maestro and the entire Spanish contingent in Catalonia are thrilled with Joan Laporta and his team for almost finalizing the recruitment of the RB Leipzig star for the upcoming season.
Pedri Discusses Olmo and His Injury
During a recent interaction with fans on The Residency, the Barcelona midfielder was subtly questioned about Dani Olmo’s arrival. Pedri played along with the joke when playfully asked if he liked Olmo’s hairstyle and almost confirmed the new signing.
“That question would be for my hairdresser,” he began.
“I like that he came to Barça because we get along very well, and surely he contributes many things. It was already seen in the European Championship,” he added.
In the same interaction, he was asked about his recent training experience alongside Gavi. Both players are recovering from injuries and putting in significant effort at the club’s facilities.
“Very good. I’m glad to see him getting better and better,” he said.
Lastly, the Canary Islands midfielder confirmed that he would not be available for the Joan Gamper Trophy match.
“No, [I have] not yet [recovered].”
Barcelona’s rising star is confident of achieving a Euro and Olympics double this summer
The last year has been exceptional for Barcelona midfield prodigy Fermin Lopez. He made his debut with the Catalan club’s first team, had a standout season, and later was selected for the Spanish national team.
After being part of the La Roja squad that clinched the UEFA Euro 2024 last month, Fermin has a rare chance to secure another international title within the same summer.
Indeed, Fermin is on the Spain squad that has reached the finals of the Olympic Games in Paris, where they will face France.
“It’s a dream to win a double like that. Alex and I are very excited and looking forward to it. Let’s see if it can happen,” Fermin said in an interview.
At just 21 years old, the midfield prodigy and Alex Baena have a significant opportunity to make history by achieving a Euro and double the number of Olympics in the same summer.
Although Fermin had limited playing time for Spain during the Euros, he has been a standout performer at the Olympics, making a significant impact with crucial goals and assists.
“I adapt to whatever the team needs. Here, I’m playing more, but there, I was very happy with the role I had. Here, I’m playing a bit more, and I can help the team more,” he commented on his current performances.
When questioned about any similarities between the two Spain national team camps he participated in this summer, the young player responded:
“I would say that we are a family too. We have a great group of people in the dressing room. We help each other a lot on the pitch, and you can see that in the matches.”
When asked if he was satisfied with his experience at the Olympics, Fermin replied:
“Yes, whatever happens, we have had a great tournament. I’ve enjoyed the experience, and I hope I can put the icing on the cake.”
In the Olympic finals, Fermin and the Spanish squad will face a France team led by Barcelona legend Thierry Henry. However, the young midfielder remains undaunted and said:
“He doesn’t impose on us. We are very relaxed about the match. We know it’s a great stage against a great rival, but we hope to have a good game and a great final so we can win gold.”
