Raphinha Slams’ Disrespect’ as Barcelona Defender Recovers

Raphinha has criticized the “disrespect” shown towards him over a fan gesture involving Nico Williams’ shirt while also highlighting his strong form this season. Meanwhile, Barcelona’s injured defender is making good progress in his recovery and has begun training, offering hope for his return to the squad soon.

Raphinha Calls Out ‘Disrespect’ Over Nico Williams Shirt

Before the season began, it appeared Raphinha was likely to leave Barcelona. However, the Brazilian turned down multiple summer offers, choosing instead to stay and prove himself under new manager Hansi Flick.

Two months later, Raphinha has become a captain and a key player for the team, performing at a top level in Europe to start the season. The 27-year-old has proven he can thrive at Barça, even winning over some skeptical fans.

Some “fans” pushed for Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams to replace Raphinha over the summer, even sharing images on social media of Nico wearing Raphinha’s number 11 shirt. Raphinha mocked this gesture at the time, and it has since fueled him to deliver some of his best performances.

He shared this at a Tuesday press conference, expressing that the gesture showed a lack of respect for him and the effort he has put into being a Barça player.

“It was a joke in bad taste. People should respect the club’s players. Seeing a photo like this did not sit well with me. It was a lack of respect towards my work.

“It didn’t influence my start, but I am motivated; I have two years left on my contract. I started knowing that I had to adapt to other positions and a different way of playing, but I gave my best. If I was working at 100 percent, now I give 200 percent.”

Raphinha’s growth this season as a player, leader, and individual has been remarkable, and it’s entertaining to see he hasn’t lost his edge. He now aims to bring his excellent form into two big matchups against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, determined to show that Barça never needed Nico.

Injured Barcelona Defender Progressing, Starts Training

Barcelona’s dressing room is at its peak this season, particularly after the events over the weekend.

The 5-1 victory over Sevilla was the ideal way for the Catalans to begin after the international break, and Gavi’s long-anticipated return to the pitch brought even more joy. Fermin Lopez’s return further added to the celebration.

Riding the wave of several midfielders’ returns, the Blaugrana are now mainly facing defensive absences. However, Sergi Capdevila offers an encouraging update on that front.

Christensen Set to Make His Return

According to Spanish journalist reports, star defender Andreas Christensen is making strong progress and recovering well from his Achilles injury.

Before Barcelona’s match against Bayern Munich, the Danish international was spotted training individually, a promising sign of his impending return.

The defender appeared in Barcelona’s season opener against Valencia, playing 26 minutes. Unfortunately, a setback with his Achilles tendon sidelined him for several months.

With the player out for the medium to long term, Barcelona took the opportunity to register Dani Olmo in La Liga as a replacement for the experienced defender.

This means Christensen won’t be able to rejoin the team immediately upon recovery. However, Joan Laporta has assured that the club is set to receive enough financial support to avoid any issues in that regard.

It is still uncertain how much time the defender will need before returning, but his comeback will be a significant boost to Hansi Flick’s plans, allowing for regular rotations in central defense.

Additionally, Christensen will provide a dependable option for the double pivot, a key component of Flick’s system.
