Barcelona and Juventus are both reportedly interested in signing Lille’s emerging talents, with the two clubs eyeing potential summer moves. As both teams look to strengthen their squads with fresh, promising players, Lille’s rising stars have become prime targets for some of Europe’s top clubs. This growing interest underscores the value of Lille’s youth development system and the potential for these players to make an impact at the highest level.
Barcelona Eyes Lille’s Lucas Chevalier for Summer Revamp
A report from Sport claims that FC Barcelona has started gathering details on Lille OSC’s 22-year-old Lucas Chevalier as they explore elite goalkeeper options for the summer.
Marc-André ter Stegen’s injury, along with questions about Iñaki Peña Sotorres’s fit for the position, prompted the club to sign Wojciech Szczęsny as a temporary solution for the season. However, long-term stability in the goalkeeper role remains a concern.
Barcelona is reportedly still undecided about purchasing a new goalkeeper, with financial considerations playing a major role in any potential move. The club must weigh its budget carefully as Lille’s rising star sees his value climb with each strong Champions League showing.
Lille Seeking Over €40 Million for Lucas Chevalier
Diario Sport reports that Barcelona believes it will take more than €40 million to convince Lille to part with their young goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier. The 22-year-old has impressed with his performances, and his value continues to rise, particularly with his strong showings in Lille’s Champions League campaign. As a result, Barcelona is carefully assessing its financial situation before making a move for Chevalier, knowing that securing him could be a significant investment.
The price tag for Chevalier could increase even further if a bidding war develops. Paris Saint-Germain has long been linked with a move for the France U21 international, and their interest in the goalkeeper could spark fierce competition for his signature. If PSG enters the race, Barcelona may face a more difficult and expensive battle to bring Chevalier to Camp Nou, making the decision more complex for the Catalan club.
Juventus Monitoring Another In-Form Lille Star, Besides David
Recent claims in the Italian press state that Juventus is not only monitoring Jonathan David but also keeping an eye on his Lille teammate, Edon Zhegrova.
The Bianconeri are eager to sign a new striker due to a lack of depth in their attack. Dusan Vlahovic has been playing continuously, while Arkadiusz Milik has been dealing with a knee injury for months and is not expected to return until January.
As a result, the Bianconeri have entered the race for Jonathan David, whose contract is nearing its end. The Canadian striker has been one of Ligue 1’s top scorers in recent seasons, earning the attention of several major European clubs.
While it’s uncertain if Juventus will have a chance to sign him in January, Tuttosport (via IlBianconero) reports that the Bianconeri are also interested in David’s teammate, Edon Zhegrova.
The 25-year-old Kosovo international has been with the Ligue 1 club since January 2022, and his contract runs until June 2026.
Zhegrova is a left-footed winger who prefers to cut in from the right side. He has contributed one assist and seven goals this season in 15 appearances across all competitions.
Lille will be Juventus’ next opponent in the Champions League, with the French side set to host Thiago Motta’s team on Tuesday. This match could provide an opportunity for Cristiano Giuntoli to closely observe David and Zhegrova and potentially inquire about their availability.
The two clubs have carried out two transfers recently. In the summer of 2023, the Bianconeri signed Timothy Weah, followed by a move for Tiago Djalo in January 2024.
The American winger had a difficult first season in Turin but is now getting more opportunities under Motta, particularly with Nico Gonzalez sidelined. Meanwhile, the Portuguese defender is currently on loan at Porto.
