Barcelona is eyeing a €20M-rated La Liga defender, with Liverpool and PSG also showing interest. The club benefits from recent remarks by Joshua Kimmich, potentially strengthening their position as PSG faces setbacks in their pursuit of the midfielder. With a crowded defensive lineup, Barcelona may look to reinforce their squad further, especially if any of their key defenders depart.
Barcelona Eyes €20M-Rated La Liga Defender, Liverpool, PSG Keen
Barcelona currently has a crowded center-back lineup, with Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez securing their spots as the starting duo under Hansi Flick.
Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen are set to recover from injury soon and compete for their spots in the team. Eric Garcia provides solid backup, while Jules Kounde can return to his natural role in central defense.
Additionally, emerging talents like Sergi Dominguez and Andres Cuenca are pushing for a spot, having been given chances under Hansi Flick.
Barcelona Interested in Loic Bade
Despite having plenty of central defensive options, reports from SPORT suggest that Barcelona is monitoring Sevilla and France center-back Loic Bade, anticipating a potential departure in the summer.
Bade, 24, has established himself as a key player for the Andalusian side since joining from Rennes in 2023 and earned praise for his performances with France at the Olympics this summer.
The young defender was called up by France coach Didier Deschamps during the recent international break but didn’t feature due to muscle issues.
Liverpool has shown interest in Jules Kounde, and if he or any other defender were to depart Barcelona, the La Liga leaders may target Bade as a replacement.
It’s worth noting that Barcelona is already working on securing Jonathan Tah on a free transfer in the summer. However, with competition for his signature, Bade could serve as an alternative option.
Plenty of Competition
However, Bade seems to have a long list of suitors, with several top European clubs showing interest in the Sevilla defender.
The report states that Barcelona, Liverpool, PSG, and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the Frenchman.
Additionally, Sevilla turned down a €20 million bid from Serie A giants AS Roma for the center-back and aims to secure at least €10 million more if they decide to sell.
It’s important to note that just two months ago, Bade signed a contract extension with Sevilla until 2029. As a result, Los Nervionenses holds a strong position in negotiations with any suitors looking to sign him.
Barcelona Gains from Kimmich’s Remarks, PSG Faces Setback
Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona have recently shown strong interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich. The experienced midfielder’s situation at Bayern has shifted unexpectedly since Vincent Kompany became manager.
Kompany has been instrumental in this scenario, reportedly urging the club to do all they can to keep the German international. However, Kimmich’s recent comments have left the possibility of a departure open.
Although the midfielder’s contract ends next June, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano states that Bayern Munich is optimistic Kimmich will agree to a contract extension soon.
Earlier this month, Fichajes reported that Bayern Munich moved quickly to retain one of their key players by offering Joshua Kimmich a new contract with a significant pay increase—something he had been seeking.
Joshua Kimmich Discusses His Future Amid Barcelona Rumors
Ahead of Wednesday night’s UEFA Champions League clash between Bayern Munich and Barcelona, Kimmich didn’t rule out the possibility of a move to Camp Nou.
“In football, one can never make the mistake of ruling out possibilities,” Kimmich told reporters. “Now, to answer directly, I’m not thinking about it at the moment, but in football, you should never rule anything out.”
“It’s certainly strange to play against them. It’s a special moment; it’s always special to play against Barça. We’ve played against them quite a few times in recent years. It’ll be interesting to meet up with Hansi again, and we’re looking forward to it.
“As I’ve just said, playing against Barça is always something very special. I’ve been linked with Barça on several occasions, but it’s not any more special for that reason. It’s special because it’s a very important club, with a very rich and successful tradition and a very good team.”
