Barcelona Targets Two Signings as PSG Eyes Rising Star

Barcelona actively seeks two signings to fill the gap the injured Marc Bernal left, demonstrating their commitment to strengthening their squad. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain is showing interest in Barcelona’s rising star, Lamine Yamal, reportedly preparing a significant bid to acquire him. As both clubs navigate the transfer market, their strategies reflect a desire to enhance their teams while facing financial and competitive challenges.

Barcelona Targets Two Signings to Replace Injured Marc Bernal

According to a report by Fichajes, Barcelona is considering two potential additions to strengthen its squad in January: Jerdy Schouten from PSV Eindhoven and Mason Greenwood from Marseille.

It’s important to highlight that while these two players have different playing styles, both could enhance crucial aspects of Hansi Flick’s team.

Schouten, a flexible defensive midfielder, has piqued Barça’s interest because of his versatility. While primarily a pivot, he can also be a center-back, a quality the coaching staff appreciates dramatically.

With Marc Bernal out for the entire season due to injury, Barcelona is looking for ways to strengthen their squad. Schouten’s contract with PSV extends until 2028, which could make acquiring him expensive.

Nonetheless, Barcelona is seeking budget-friendly options that would enable them to enhance their squad’s depth without overspending.

What about Greenwood?

On the offensive front, Mason Greenwood has become a possible target. The 22-year-old has revitalized his career in France, demonstrating impressive form with five goals in four league games.

Barcelona has previously contacted Greenwood’s agents, especially during his time in Spain. Although his recent performances are encouraging, securing a deal for Greenwood is complicated.

Manchester United included multiple clauses in his previous transfers that could complicate a future deal. Moreover, Real Madrid has shown interest in Greenwood, increasing the competition for his signature.

Additionally, Barcelona’s financial situation complicates things. With restricted funds, the club struggles to cover high transfer fees. Still, they are committed to finding solutions during the January transfer window, which is expected to be active for player transactions.

The club must think outside the box to strengthen their squad while effectively navigating their financial limitations.

PSG Planned a Big Bid for Barcelona’s Rising Star

This summer, speculation arose about Paris Saint-Germain considering Lamine Yamal as a possible replacement for Kylian Mbappé. Recently, a journalist disclosed that the French club was prepared to bid €200M for him, but the deal ultimately fell through.

Mundo Deportivo reported during the summer that PSG was willing to shatter its transfer record by offering up to €250 million—exceeding the €222 million it had previously spent—to acquire Yamal.

With Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr., and Mbappé departed, the capital club lacked the star power that many have come to expect in the French capital. Since Zlatan Ibrahimović arrived in 2012, PSG has aimed to maintain a prominent name in global football.

Consequently, Le Parisien’s Dominique Séverac reports that the capital club was prepared to offer €200 million to entice Yamal away from the Catalan side.

“Is there an offensive star missing? Maybe, but who was available this summer?” Séverac noted. “Osimhen? Is he a star? Would he fit into Luis Enrique’s style? What about Julian Alvarez? Is he a star? There weren’t any big names ready to move this summer. Paris wanted Lamine Yamal but quickly realized it was impossible despite being ready to offer €200 million.”

It will be intriguing to see if the French giants choose to offer this staggering amount in the future in an attempt to acquire another player from Barcelona.
