Correa’s Future: Back to Lazio, Contract Termination, or Return to Argentina

Inter Milan are grappling with a major decision about the future of Joaquin Correa, the Argentine striker, who recently returned from an unsuccessful loan at Marseille, is outside coach Simone Inzaghi’s plans for the upcoming season. Consequently, the club is exploring options to part ways with Correa a year before his contract ends.

Calciomercato reports that Correa’s future still needs to be determined, with Inter Milan and his representatives actively seeking a suitable new team for him.

During this period, Correa is diligently training under coach Simone Inzaghi to maintain his peak physical condition, ensuring he is fully prepared for the upcoming season and ready for any potential opportunities.

At the same time, Inter’s struggle to offload Correa is affecting their efforts to secure Albert Gudmundsson. Gudmundsson is on the verge of joining Fiorentina, complicating Inter’s pursuit of the player.

The financial situation involving Correa is quite intricate. Inter Milan is striving to sell him before his contract expires on June 30, 2025, to avoid incurring a significant financial loss.

The amortization cost for Correa is approximately €8.5 million. In addition to this, his net salary is €3.5 million.

When these figures are combined, the total cost for the 2024/25 season would amount to roughly €15 million.

This considerable financial commitment underscores Inter’s urgency in finding a solution that mitigates its losses while addressing Correa’s future.

One potential solution being explored is the early termination of Correa’s contract.

This approach could help Inter save around €6.5 million in gross salary.

Although this option is still remote and not yet a concrete plan, it remains a viable consideration for the club.

The club is weighing this possibility as they work through their financial and roster challenges.

Veron spoke about Correa’s situation: “I was with Joaquin, and we talked. He is still young. He feels he can take another step in Europe. Today, the truth is that it is very complex and tough. But football often lacks logic. I wouldn’t get my hopes up today; I would let him decide. The important thing is that he finds his path first. And then, as I told him, we are waiting for him at the club.”

Lazio’s strong relationship with Correa’s agent, Alessandro Lucci, has created a potential opportunity for Correa to return to the Biancocelesti.

This positive connection between the club and Lucci has enabled discussions about a possible move to Lazio.

However, Lazio has explicitly stated that they would only consider pursuing Correa if he is able to resolve his contract situation with Inter Milan.

For the move to proceed, Correa would need to become a free agent first. This condition must be met before Lazio can seriously entertain the idea of bringing him back to the club.

Several clubs have shown interest in Correa, including River Plate, AEK Athens, Sevilla, and several teams from Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

Despite this interest, these clubs have yet to make a definitive move to secure him.

The situation is still evolving, and an early termination of Correa’s contract with Inter could significantly alter the current dynamics.

Such a change could create new opportunities for Correa, as it prompts more concrete offers from interested parties.

Inter Milan is tasked with finding a solution that minimizes financial losses while also allowing Correa to advance his career with a different team.

The club must navigate this delicate balance to avoid significant financial setbacks while facilitating a move for the Argentine striker.

The next few weeks will be crucial in shaping how this situation develops, as they will play a key role in shaping Correa’s next steps and future career opportunities.
