Aston Villa may soon say goodbye to one of Unai Emery’s midfielders in 2025, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly planning a permanent move despite recently re-signing him.
Aston Villa Transfer Update
The Villans have experienced the pressure of fixture congestion over the past week, being comfortably beaten by Tottenham Hotspur and then losing to Club Brugge. With Premier League leaders Liverpool next, the tough stretch could see Emery’s side go five matches without a win across all competitions.
Tyrone Mings’ return was seen as a significant boost for those in the Midlands, but his costly mistake against Club Brugge is one he’ll likely want to forget quickly.
Boubacar Kamara also made his return from injury at the end of last month and started against Club Brugge, alongside England defender Tyrone Mings. However, with interest from other clubs, Emery could soon face the prospect of losing his midfielder.
Reports from Spain suggest that PSG are closely monitoring Kamara for a potential move in 2025. After Kylian Mbappe’s departure, the Ligue 1 giants have struggled this season and are in need of several reinforcements to regain form. They are also reportedly tracking Jhon Duran and may sell Goncalo Ramos to fund a move for the Villa substitute.
Having signed Kamara on a free transfer in 2022, the Villans are reportedly seeking up to €50m (£42m) to sell their midfielder next summer, which would provide a valuable profit to assist with FFP requirements.
“Incredible” Kamara Provides Essential Depth
Although Amadou Onana’s arrival means Emery doesn’t need to rely on Kamara as a starter, his value to the squad is undeniable. Kamara played a key role in getting the Villans to this stage and can now have an even greater impact with the increased number of games due to Villa’s European commitments.
Once fully fit and in top form, the midfielder could find himself alongside Onana in a role similar to the one he previously played next to Douglas Luiz. The former Villa midfielder thrived in that position during his time at the club, and Onana could enjoy similar benefits.
Luiz, who has played alongside Kamara for two years, previously praised him for Sky Sports, saying: “It has been two years now that I have been playing with Kamara. He’s an incredible player, and he has given me a bit more freedom to get forward and do the things that I like.”
In the event that PSG makes an offer that meets Aston Villa’s reported £42m asking price for Boubacar Kamara, the Midlands club will be forced to make a tough decision. On one hand, selling the midfielder would bring in a significant profit, helping Villa balance their books and potentially meet Financial Fair Play requirements. It would also free up resources for other potential signings or improvements within the squad. With the club’s financial health always a key factor in decision-making, this option might seem appealing, especially with the added pressure of maintaining a stable balance sheet.
On the other hand, losing Kamara would mean parting ways with a key player who has been integral to the team’s success under Unai Emery. The defensive midfielder has proven his worth over the past seasons, and despite the arrival of Amadou Onana, his presence provides crucial depth and balance to the squad. With Villa’s ambitions for European football, keeping Kamara might be the more sensible choice in terms of maintaining squad strength and ensuring they have the depth required to contend on several fronts. Ultimately, Villa will have to weigh the financial benefits of a sale against the potential impact on their overall performance and team cohesion.
