PSG in Talks to Renew Hakimi; Navas Eyes La Liga Return

Paris Saint-Germain is discussing renewing Achraf Hakimi’s contract, a crucial player for the team, as they aim to secure his future at the club. Meanwhile, former PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas is expressing interest in a return to La Liga after announcing his retirement from international football and seeking a new club. With Hakimi’s ongoing negotiations and Navas’s potential move back to Spain, PSG is navigating significant changes to maintain its competitive edge in French and European football.

PSG Negotiating Contract Renewal with Hakimi

Fabrizio Romano reports that Paris Saint-Germain is currently engaged in discussions with Achraf Hakimi (25) regarding his contract renewal, highlighting the club’s intention to secure his long-term future at the team.

Hakimi joined PSG from Inter Milan in 2021 in a transfer worth a reported €68 million. He has since established himself as a key player. He has consistently occupied the starting right-back position, showcasing his skills and versatility. Over his tenure with Les Parisiens, he has made an impressive 125 appearances, contributing significantly to the team’s offensive play by scoring 15 goals and providing 21 assists. This season alone, he has already made his mark by scoring once and delivering two assists in just five matches across all competitions, further solidifying his importance to the squad.

Both manager Luis Enrique and sporting director Luís Campos recognize Hakimi as an integral part of their plans. His reliable performances and capacity to influence games have made him a vital player in the club’s strategy. Given these factors, it is logical that the reigning Ligue 1 champions are keen on securing the future of the talented Morocco international at the Parc des Princes.

Although Hakimi still has two years remaining on his current deal, PSG is proactive in discussing extending his contract, as confirmed by Romano. His contributions and potential make him one of the essential figures in PSG’s evolving project, which aims to maintain the club’s dominance in French football and compete effectively on the European stage. By negotiating a new contract, PSG hopes to reinforce its commitment to Hakimi and its vision for the future.

Former PSG Goalkeeper May Be Returning to La Liga

The goalkeeper who defended Paris Saint-Germain during their journey to the 2020 Champions League final may be heading back to Spain, at least for a short while.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Keylor Navas (37) is keen on joining Barcelona, as the current La Liga leaders urgently seek a goalkeeper.

This information follows the serious right knee injury sustained by Barça’s first-choice goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen (32), who is expected to be sidelined for the season.

Navas declared retirement from international football in May and has been looking for a new club since his departure from PSG was officially announced.

Before the 2023-24 season, he turned down an offer to join Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League and chose to stay in the French capital as the backup goalkeeper.

L’Équipe reports that the Costa Rican is among three goalkeepers that the Catalan club is contemplating for the starting position for the rest of the season.

Other possible candidates for ter Stegen are Barça’s reserve goalkeeper Iñaki Pena (25) and Claudio Bravo (41), who played at Camp Nou from 2014 to 2016.

Navas spent five seasons in La Liga as the starting goalkeeper for Real Madrid, where he won the La Liga title in the 2016-17 season and three consecutive Champions League trophies under French manager Zinédine Zidane.

Following Les Parisiens’ acquisition of Gianluigi Donnarumma (25) before the 2021-22 season, Navas saw limited playing time with the Ligue 1 club and subsequently joined Premier League team Nottingham Forest on a short loan in January 2023.

In the 2020-21 season, the Union Nationale des Footballers Professionals (UNFP) awarded Navas Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year.

He secured three league titles with PSG and won the Coupe de France three times and the Trophée des Champions three times.
