The LFP’s legal commission sided with Mbappe last month, but PSG denied owing him money and filed an appeal. Both sides were heard again on October 15, with the verdict staying the same.
The LFP stated in an email to The Associated Press, ‘The club (PSG) must pay him the parts of his salary he is claiming.’
‘This decision is not subject to (further) appeal, but can be raised before the executive committee of the FFF (French Soccer Federation).”
Mbappe had earlier turned down a mediation proposal from the commission in his dispute with PSG, claiming the club owed him three months’ salary and the final third of a loyalty bonus.
He moved to Real Madrid this summer on a free transfer, having scored a club-record 256 goals in seven years at PSG.
PSG claimed that a verbal agreement was made when Mbappé was left out at the start of the 2023-24 season after he chose not to extend his contract. The club alleged that Mbappé agreed to forgo bonuses in exchange for being reintegrated into the team.
PSG asserted that a verbal agreement was reached when Mbappé was excluded at the beginning of the 2023-24 season following his decision not to renew his contract. The club alleged that Mbappé consented to waive bonuses in return for being brought back into the team.
The France star has netted eight goals in 13 matches for Madrid leading up to Saturday’s clash with archrival Barcelona.
PSG felt betrayed by Mbappé when he accepted a new contract that offered him the highest salary in the club’s history deal in 2022.
However, Mbappé was frustrated as he believed promises to bring in key players were not fulfilled. When he signed the deal, he was showcased to fans holding a jersey with the number 2025 on it. Mbappé was reportedly upset because the contract was actually until 2024, with an option for an additional year.
Mbappé shocked PSG in June of the previous year by telling the club he would not exercise the option for an additional year. With his contract effectively entering its final year, PSG was forced to consider selling Mbappé to avoid losing him for free when the contract ended.
Mbappé’s time at PSG was almost brought to an end during the summer of 2023 due to a tense transfer standoff that left both the player and the club in a difficult position. After informing PSG that he had no intention of extending his contract, the situation escalated. The club made the decision to leave him off the preseason tour to Japan and South Korea, and he was forced to train with the reserve players, a clear sign of the growing tension between the two sides.
PSG, facing the prospect of losing Mbappé for nothing the following summer, made it clear they would prefer to sell him rather than let him walk away for free in 2024. Despite the intense pressure, Mbappé rejected a staggering 300 million euro offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. His decision to turn down such a significant move added to the drama, as it made it clear that his future at PSG was still uncertain.
Things took a turn when PSG left Mbappé out of the starting lineup for the opening league match of the season, further fueling speculation about his future. However, after talks between the club and the player, the situation seemed to calm. Mbappé quickly returned to the starting lineup, signaling a temporary resolution to the standoff, but the underlying issues remained unresolved.
