PSG is eyeing a potential move for a Liverpool star as a replacement for Achraf Hakimi, with the player also showing interest in a transfer to Manchester United. Meanwhile, Chelsea is on high alert and monitoring the situation closely. As negotiations continue, the outcome remains uncertain, with both PSG and Chelsea keen on securing the player’s services.
PSG Target Liverpool Star as Hakimi’s Replacement
Reports suggest Morocco international Achraf Hakimi is unlikely to agree to a new Paris Saint-Germain deal to agree to a new Paris Saint-Germain deal. The 26-year-old right-back, widely regarded as one of the best in the world, is set to become a free agent when his current deal expires in 2026. This new development contradicts earlier claims from sources like L’Équipe, which had stated that the 5ft-11 defender would extend his stay at PSG until at least 2029.
Hakimi, who began his career at Real Madrid’s academy, joined PSG from Inter Milan in 2021. A key player for the French giants ever since, he recently expressed his desire to help the team win their first UEFA Champions League title. However, he also hinted at his ambition to secure more trophies.
PSG is frequently ridiculed as “home bullies” due to their struggles in European competitions. Despite being a star-studded team backed by Middle Eastern oil wealth, they have never achieved the ultimate success in European football.
Which Club Will Sign Achraf Hakimi?
PSG’s struggles in the UCL are believed to be a factor in national captain Kylian Mbappé’s potential move to Real Madrid. The same could apply to Achraf Hakimi, a two-time African Youth Player of the Year, who has yet to secure European silverware despite his high reputation as a top player.
Although there has been no immediate update on potential destinations for the former Borussia Dortmund star, some reports claim to have insight into PSG’s contingency plan. According to these reports, Luis Enrique’s side is likely to target English right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold from Premier League club Liverpool.
Is Trent Alexander-Arnold Set to Leave Liverpool?
Trent Alexander-Arnold, 26, whose current contract with Liverpool expires in the summer of 2025, is unlikely to remain at Anfield beyond the post-Jürgen Klopp era. The right-back has been frequently linked with La Liga champions Real Madrid, and recent injuries to Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vázquez could prompt Los Blancos to pursue a move for him soon.
Meanwhile, PSG is looking to disrupt the situation by bringing Trent to Ligue 1. According to a report by SportBible, the English defender is already in talks with PSG, with discussions progressing to advanced stages. If Hakimi leaves in 2026, Trent could step in as his replacement. However, if the Moroccan stays, the versatile Englishman could be utilized in midfield, a position he has played under Gareth Southgate for the England national team.
However, Trent Alexander-Arnold has not revealed his intentions and remains tight-lipped about his future. It remains to be seen whether he will opt for the financially powerful French champions or the established trophy winners from the Spanish capital.
PSG Target Eyes Man Utd Move, Chelsea Alerted
Manchester United is reportedly keen on Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, who is unhappy with his limited starting chances at the club, according to L’Équipe.
Paris Saint-Germain could also be considering a move forward for the French. Last month, Nkunku was asked by Téléfoot if his former club had expressed any interest in re-signing him for a return to the Parc des Princes.
“A Nkunku-Barcola duo at PSG?” Nkunku laughed. “I don’t know what to say about that. But PSG is still a big club. Any approach this summer? No, no, no. I’ve always said there was no approach.”
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany also reported this week that Nkunku has no plans to transfer this winter. However, if his situation at Chelsea doesn’t improve by the summer, he may consider leaving.
The Telegraph Football reports that Chelsea would be open to selling Nkunku in January, but only if they can recover the £52 million they spent on him.
