Spanish news outlet Eldesmarque reports that West Ham United is among the clubs interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler.
Julen Lopetegui has been determined to make his mark this summer, taking over from David Moyes at West Ham. His relentless pursuit of new signings has been a key part of his mission.
Borussia Dortmund’s Niclas Fullkrug and the highly-regarded Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice are among the exciting new signings anticipated to immediately impact the East London squad when the Premier League kicks off this weekend.
Former Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman and Leeds United standout Crysencio Summerville join the team, bringing a wealth of Premier League experience.
The Spaniard isn’t done refining his revamped Hammers squad just yet, as they’re now being linked with a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler.
Spanish news outlet Eldesmarque reports that PSG is looking to offload the 27-year-old, as he has become surplus to their needs.
According to the report, the Irons are speeding up their chase for Soler, and the Ligue 1 champions are thought to be open to finalizing a deal around their valuation of £17.1m.
Should West Ham pursue a deal for Carlos Soler?
There’s no denying that Soler would be a fantastic addition to the midfield in East London, providing much-needed quality and depth in a crucial position for the team.
In 21 Ligue 1 appearances last season, the Spanish star scored two goals, provided two assists, and achieved an 88% pass completion rate. Despite averaging just 46 minutes per game, he averaged 2.3 ball recoveries, 37.7 touches, and 26.9 accurate passes per match.
According to FBref, Soler ranked in the top 10% among his positional peers across the top five European leagues for touches and progressive passes. He also placed in the top 15% for assists and non-penalty goals per 90 minutes over the past year.
His strong progressive play from deep positions and dedication to advancing the ball will likely be his most significant assets for West Ham. These qualities make him an excellent fit to partner with the dynamic forward line, enhancing goal contributions throughout the upcoming season.
Considering the reported price and his experience at an elite level, the Hammers should clearly continue their pursuit of Soler this summer. He could become a valuable asset to Lopetegui’s revamped squad.
West Ham United propose €20 million for Nathan Zeze
Italian outlet Sport Italia reports that West Ham United are interested in Nathan Zeze. The Hammers are competing with Inter Milan for the Nantes center-back and have proposed €20 million to secure him. However, the Ligue 1 club is holding out for around €30 million to release the 19-year-old talent.
Who is Nathan Zeze?
Nathan Zeze is the latest highly regarded French talent gaining recognition in his home country. France consistently produces emerging stars, and the Nantes defender is the latest in a long line of skilled center-backs. A Nantes native, Zeze has been with his local club since 2013 and has made significant progress over the past decade.
The 19-year-old debuted with FC Nantes’ first team in January 2023 and has steadily developed over the past 18 months. Zeze has appeared 16 times for the Ligue 1 club, accumulating 1,220 minutes of playing time.
Is London calling?
West Ham United’s interest in Nathan Zeze makes sense. Although the Hammers have strengthened their defense with the addition of Jean-Clair Todibo from OGC Nice, they might soon welcome another Ligue 1 defender to the London Stadium. Todibo is set to replace Kurt Zouma, who is expected to depart the East London club, despite his move to Shabab Al-Ahli falling through.
Moreover, Nayef Aguerd and Konstantinos Mavropanos face uncertain futures at West Ham, and Angelo Ogbonna has already departed as a free agent. As a result, several potential replacements, including Diego Carlos, have come onto West Ham’s radar. However, Zeze remains a strong contender, with the East London club proposing €20 million to secure the French defender.
West Ham’s offer exceeds Inter Milan’s, which proposed approximately €15 million. However, neither bid meets Nantes’s asking price of €30 million. It will be interesting to see if the Ligue 1 club seeks a higher offer for the 19-year-old from either team.
