Celtic Turn Down Fifth Bid from Atalanta for Matt O’Riley

Italian side Atalanta has made yet another attempt to secure Matt O’Riley’s services. Still, Celtic has firmly rejected their fifth bid for the talented midfielder. Atalanta’s persistent interest underscores the high regard O’Riley holds across Europe. Despite their continued offers, Celtic remains resolute in keeping the 23-year-old.

O’Riley’s potential has also caught the eye of other prominent clubs, with Brighton and Chelsea among those showing considerable interest. Both Premier League sides are keen to add the Denmark international to their squads, highlighting his growing reputation on the continent. The competition for his signature is intensifying, reflecting his impressive performances and potential impact.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has been clear that the club has no intention of letting O’Riley go. He has firmly stated that the team does not need to sell the talented midfielder, reinforcing their position on keeping their key players. This strong stance highlights Celtic’s determination to maintain their core squad.

The club’s commitment to keeping O’Riley underscores his significant role in their future plans. Celtic refuses to consider offers, demonstrating how integral O’Riley is to their long-term strategy and success. His presence remains crucial to their ambitions, and the club’s decision reflects their confidence in his contribution.

Celtic have turned down Atalanta’s fifth proposal for midfielder Matt O’Riley

Reports indicate that Atalanta’s most recent offer for O’Riley amounted to £21.5 million, with additional incentives included. This latest bid reflects the Serie A club’s serious interest in securing the midfielder’s services. Despite the noteworthy sum, Celtic has decided to reject the proposal.

Atalanta has been pursuing the Denmark international for over a month, with previous offers of £14 million, £14.3 million, £15 million, and £20 million all turned down by Celtic. Despite their persistent attempts, Celtic remains firm in their decision not to sell.

Brighton has been actively negotiating with Celtic to acquire O’Riley, indicating their serious interest in the midfielder. In addition to Brighton, Chelsea and several other top clubs have also shown strong interest, highlighting O’Riley’s appeal across the footballing world.

As a result, the competition to secure his signature is intensifying. With multiple high-profile teams keen on signing him, O’Riley’s future is becoming a focal point in this summer’s transfer market.

O’Riley, who tallied 19 goals and 18 assists in 49 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ team last season, provided the assist for Celtic’s second goal in their 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock in their Scottish Premiership opener.

The 23-year-old is contracted with Celtic until 2027, underscoring the club’s long-term commitment to the midfielder. Earlier this year, in January, Celtic rejected a £20 million offer from Atletico Madrid, demonstrating their intention to retain O’Riley despite significant interest from other clubs. This move reflects Celtic’s valuation of the player and their reluctance to let him go at a lower price.

Rodgers has previously cautioned clubs that O’Riley won’t be leaving Celtic for a low price this summer.

“There are obviously bids that will come in for Matt O’Riley, but, I repeat, there is no need for us to sell, and we don’t want to sell.”

“If there’s an offer that comes in that fits the valuation of the player, then that’s a different matter.

“Until that moment I’m fairly relaxed because he’s training really well, working really hard and until that changes we just continue focused on performing.”

“The challenge for teams coming to a club like Celtic is they sometimes can place their value on the league and not the player.”

“What’s important for me is if a player does leave here, they pay the value for the player, and that isn’t something that always happens.”

“No player will leave here unless it’s for the right valuation, and at this moment in time, there’s been no team that’s been anywhere near that.”
