The Netherlands international told Dutch outlet Foetbalzone, through FCInterNews, that he downplayed speculation about a possible return to the Eredivisie.
De Vrij is currently in his seventh season with Inter.
The 32-year-old has been with the Nerazzurri since signing on a free transfer from Lazio in the summer of 2018.
Since joining Inter, de Vrij has won the Serie A title twice. He has also contributed to the Nerazzurri’s victories in two Coppa Italia and three Supercoppa Italiana trophies.
De Vrij is also a runner-up in both the Europa League and Champions League with Inter.
The 32-year-old is currently competing for the starting position at Inter with another former Biancocelesti defender, Francesco Acerbi.
What is clear is that de Vrij still has the full confidence of his coach, Simone Inzaghi.
De Vrij Dismisses Feyenoord Return Rumors
Currently, de Vrij is contracted with Inter until the end of next June.
The Dutchman is currently under the same contract he signed last summer.
De Vrij had the chance to leave Inter on a free transfer last summer but opted to sign a two-year extension instead.
The question now is whether Inter will extend de Vrij’s contract for next season and if the 32-year-old would prioritize staying with the club.
If de Vrij were to leave, there have been ongoing rumors about a return to Feyenoord.
The Dutchman said, however, that “As long as I continue to have an important role, I’ll be very happy at Inter.”
“It’s a top club,” he said of the Nerazzurri. “We play to win trophies.”
Regarding the possibility of returning to Feyenoord, de Vrij stated, “I can’t say anything yet.”
“I’m not saying that I prefer to stay in Italy. But there are a number of things to take into consideration when making a decision like that.”
“I still have a contract with Inter,” de Vrij made clear. “I’ll wait and see what happens next.”
“But I’m not thinking about that yet,” he said.
Inter Milan Targets Young Parma Defender After Strong Start
According to Italian outlet FCInterNews, the 22-year-old has caught the Nerazzurri’s attention as a potential future addition to their defense.
Regardless of the circumstances, Inter is highly likely to sign a defender next summer.
The Nerazzurri are looking for a particular type of player for this purpose. They aim to acquire someone who can anchor the center of their back three for the future.
Currently, Inter has two primary options for that position: Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.
Acerbi and de Vrij continue to perform at the required level.
Nonetheless, it’s clear that both former Lazio defenders are now well into their thirties.
Additionally, both Acerbi and de Vrij are currently under contracts that expire at the end of next June.
As a result, it is unlikely that Inter will retain both Acerbi and de Vrij in the squad beyond this season.
Instead, the Nerazzurri plan to keep one of the two veteran defenders and sign a younger player to serve as their understudy starting next season.
Inter Milan Considering Parma Defender Botond Balogh
According to FCIN, one of the players Inter is looking at for a potential move is young Parma defender Balogh.
The outlet reports that the Nerazzurri believe the 22-year-old possesses the appropriate style of play.
Inter would prioritize a defender who has the physical and tactical qualities necessary to protect the penalty area and mark opposing center-forwards.
That describes the type of defender Balogh is.
Additionally, the young Hungarian is currently making a name for himself in Serie A, which is definitely an advantage for Inter.
The Nerazzurri have been monitoring Balogh’s performances this season since Parma returned to Serie A, and they have been impressed.
As FCIN points out, Balogh is not the only Parma player that Inter is currently scouting.
