The Juventus midfielder and ex-Manchester United player was asked to name the world’s best during a livestream with YouTuber IShowSpeed.
Pogba first chose Real Madrid and Brazil winger Vinicius Junior but later reconsidered, suggesting Erling Haaland and Harry Kane should also be considered.
Since joining Manchester City in 2022, Haaland has netted an impressive 104 goals in 113 appearances, playing a key role in Pep Guardiola’s team achieving an unprecedented triple in his first season at the Etihad Stadium.
Kane, on the other hand, has scored 61 goals in 59 matches for Bayern Munich and was set to surpass Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal record before leaving Tottenham a little over a year ago.
The 31-year-old, with more than 400 goals for both club and country, is England’s all-time top scorer, having overtaken Manchester United legend and Pogba’s former teammate Wayne Rooney last year.
Despite a disappointing performance at Euro 2024, Kane’s reputation remains intact, with Pogba still considering him one of the best players in the world.
When asked who he considers the best in the world, Pogba told IShowSpeed: ‘Honestly talking? I would give it to Vini. Vini’s good, and he’s cold, bro.‘
Questioning his answer, Pogba hesitated before adding: ‘But… Haaland also deserves it, man and Harry Kane has been scoring goals and goals and goals.’
Vinicius came in second place to Man City midfielder Rodri in the 2024 Ballon d’Or after a stellar year, during which he won the Champions League and La Liga titles.
Barcelona and Spain’s teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal won the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony as the top player under 21.
Pogba concurs that Yamal, 17, is the ‘best young player in the world,’ adding on the stream: ‘He is cold.
‘Right now, he’s killing it; at the Euros, he had games, and he was killing it. He’s so young, and he won it. He’s the best young player in the world.
‘Give him a few more months. Can you imagine if he won the Champions League this year? He’s cold, bro. He’s 17, he still has homework!’
Rodri expressed after being named the best men’s player in the world for the first time: ‘A very special day for me, my family and my country.
‘Today is not a victory for me; it is for Spanish football, for so many players who have not won it and have deserved it, like [Andres] Iniesta, Xavi [Hernandez], Iker [Casillas], Sergio Busquets, so many others.
‘It is for Spanish football and for the figure of the midfielder.’
Kane was also present at the ceremony to receive the Gerd Muller Trophy, which he shared with Kylian Mbappe after scoring the most goals of the year.
‘Thank you to my club Bayern Munich, all my staff, teammates, for helping me score all the goals I scored’, said the England captain.
‘It’s an honour to take this award from a club legend [Karl-Heinz Rummenigge] – thank you very much.’
Kane’s underwhelming performance at Euro 2024 led to concerns about his future with the England national team, with many questioning if he could return to his best. However, he has silenced those doubts this season, rediscovering his top form and scoring an impressive 17 goals in just 14 matches. His clinical finishing has included three remarkable hat-tricks, further cementing his status as one of the world’s top strikers.
Thanks to his goals, Bayern Munich has managed to establish a three-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table. Kane’s contributions have been crucial as Vincent Kompany, in his first season at the helm, looks to guide the club to a Bundesliga title. With Kane in such lethal form, the team appears well on its way to achieving that goal.
