Ronaldo vs Juventus Legal Battle, January Transfer Talks

The ongoing legal dispute between Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus shows no sign of resolution, with the case now expected to extend into 2025. Meanwhile, Juventus is reportedly planning strategic moves in the upcoming January transfer window, focusing on strengthening their squad. Among the potential targets are high-profile players from both Barcelona and Real Madrid, signaling the club’s intent to bolster its roster in the second half of the season. While details remain scarce, these developments indicate a busy few months ahead for Juventus, with both legal and footballing matters to address.

Ronaldo vs Juventus: Legal Showdown Heads into 2025

The legal clash between Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus rages on, with a new hearing scheduled for March 2025.

La Repubblica reports that the first hearing of Juventus’ appeal at the Work Tribunal is set for March, where a judge will determine whether the case will proceed.

In April 2024, the Collegio Arbitrale court ordered Juventus to pay Ronaldo around €9.8m in unpaid wages from his time at the club.

The Dispute Between Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo Explained

The dispute originated from the “Salary Manoeuvre” implemented by Juventus during the peak of the Covid pandemic in 2020.

The players publicly agreed to forgo two months’ wages to support the club during the period without football due to the pandemic.

A November 2022 investigation challenged this account, revealing that many players were still set to receive their salaries through other means.

When Cristiano Ronaldo departed Juventus in August 2021 for a last-minute move to Manchester United, a dispute arose over whether he had relinquished his right to the owed money.

As part of a broader financial investigation, Juventus were initially penalized 15 Serie A points, which were later reduced to 10 on appeal, along with a plea deal.

Juventus Eye January Move for Barça, Real Madrid Target

Jonathan Tah is set to be a key figure in the transfer market in the coming months. The 28-year-old centre-back’s contract with Bayer Leverkusen runs out at the end of the season, attracting interest from several clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Reports from Germany and Italy, shared by SPORT, suggest Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are also vying for the defender. However, it may be Juventus that poses the biggest challenge to Barcelona.

Juventus is targeting Tah for a January Move

According to the report, Juventus are now weighing the option of signing Jonathan Tah in the winter transfer window to secure the German centre-back before his contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires.

Following Gleison Bremer’s severe knee injury in early October, the ‘Bianconeri‘ are considering a financial investment to strengthen Thiago Motta’s defense in January.

Bayer Leverkusen is unwilling to entertain a low-cost transfer in the winter market, but the reality is that losing Tah for free in the summer isn’t a desirable outcome for the German club either.

Meanwhile, Barcelona continues to keep an eye on the German defender’s situation, even though their defensive lineup appears well-stocked.

Tah is a defender who is highly regarded by Barcelona’s sports department for his physical strength. Deco had already considered him in the summer, and in August, a move was initiated through his agent, Pini Zahavi, with whom they have a strong relationship.

At that point, Leverkusen demanded a high fee, and Barcelona ended the transfer window, unable to make any moves due to the salary cap.

In recent months, the option to sign Jonathan Tah has remained on the table, but with Juventus now planning a move in January, it will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
