Trevoh Chalobah, currently a Chelsea player, has become a key target for Aston Villa as they seek a new center-back. Chelsea’s absence from the Champions League is affecting their ability to secure top sponsorship deals and transfer targets, leading to Chalobah’s potential move gaining traction. Despite not rushing his decision, Chalobah is interested in joining a club with European competition. Villa’s interest reflects their need for a replacement if current player Marc Guehi leaves.
Chelsea’s absence from the Champions League is significantly impacting their performance in one key area
Reports suggest that Chelsea may start the Premier League season without a front-of-shirt sponsor for the second year.
The Blues are set to launch their season against Manchester City on August 18th, but they still need to finalize a sponsorship deal.
Throughout their pre-season tour of America, the club wore shirts with last season’s sponsor, Infinite Athlete, and it’s expected they will continue to do so for Sunday’s friendly against Inter Milan.
Chelsea are starting the season without a shirt sponsor
The Sun reports that the Blues will likely start the season without a front-of-shirt sponsor. Premier League rules require clubs to have only one sponsor for the season. However, changes are allowed in exceptional cases, such as financial troubles for the sponsor.
Chelsea needs help securing a profitable shirt sponsor due to its absence from the Champions League. Last season, they spent the initial period without a sponsor before striking a one-season deal with Infinite Athlete, reportedly valued at around £40 million.
The club reportedly discussed potential sponsorship deals with Chinese tire companies Sailun Tire and LingLong Tire. However, the specifics of the potential deal have yet to be detailed.
Infinite Athlete is about to become the club’s sleeve sponsor. Chelsea has agreed to have the crypto company BingX sponsor their training kit.
It could be better that Chelsea are set to start the season with a shirt sponsor again. They will likely agree on a short-term deal, hoping to qualify for the Champions League and secure a more valuable long-term sponsorship.
Even though Chelsea hasn’t secured a shirt sponsor, it has been successful in the transfer market. It is nearly finalizing deals for striker Samu Omorodion and winger Pedro Neto.
Chelsea outcast is now drawing interest from a Champions League club
According to Matt Law, Aston Villa is interested in Trevoh Chalobah and considers him one of several options for replacing Diego Carlos.
Chalobah was excluded from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America and is now considered surplus to requirements despite having played a crucial role in the second half of last season to help the club secure a top-six finish.
The 25-year-old’s contract, which he signed less than two years ago, has four years left. After Chelsea returns from America, he will continue training with the club’s development squad.
Chalobah is one of the options Aston Villa is considering for a new center-back
Chalobah, a product of Chelsea’s youth academy, is reportedly available for around £25 million. The versatile defender can play in both a back three and a back four, and he can also play right back.
The academy graduate missed out on a move to Bayern Munich when former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was in charge, and he also rejected a transfer to Nottingham Forest last summer.
However, Law reports that Aston Villa is the latest team to show interest in Chalobah. The defender is being considered as one of their potential replacements for Carlos, who is drawing significant interest from Fulham and may be on the move.
Chalobah is reportedly not rushing to make a decision about his future but would prefer to move to a club competing in European football. He has also attracted interest from Crystal Palace, which is exploring alternatives to Marc Guehi if he departs the club.
