Since taking over in the summer, new manager Slot has had a nearly seamless start, guiding the Reds to seven wins in eight league matches, three victories in the Champions League, and a dominant 5-1 win over West Ham United in the Carabao Cup.
Slot’s debut has shattered records at Anfield, swiftly easing any concerns about a slow transition from Jurgen Klopp’s reign. The Dutch manager has had mostly a fully fit squad to work with, but there are a few key players he will be without for Sunday’s trip to the capital.
As we approach what looks set to be one of the season’s standout matches, here’s the latest update on Liverpool’s injury situation.
Alisson
- Injury: Hamstring
- Potential return date: November
While he is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Alisson has developed a concerning habit of picking up injuries in recent years. The hamstring injury he sustained during the win at Crystal Palace is expected to sideline him until at least November, with Slot advising fans not to expect a quick return.
In his pre-match press conference, Slot shared: “He’s progressing well, like we expect. But it’s not a short-term recovery.
“It’s always difficult to judge him. I think the best way to judge an injury is in the end of an injury, the end phase of his rehab, and he’s not there yet.
“I can’t tell you how much longer he will be out, but don’t expect him to be in against Brighton in the cup or next week.”
Alisson has already missed matches against Chelsea and RB Leipzig and will be eager to recover in time for the crucial games against Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa at the beginning of November.
Diogo Jota
- Injury: Chest
- Potential return date: Brighton (A) – 30/10/24
Diogo Jota has been Slot’s preferred option to spearhead Liverpool’s attack this season, registering four goals and two assists across all competitions.
However, the Portugal international seemed to take a knock on his chest during last week’s 2-1 win over Chelsea and was then absent for the Champions League victory over RB Leipzig. Slot has now confirmed that Jota will not be available for Sunday’s trip to the Emirates.
“I think they feel good, but not when it comes to playing for us during the weekend. Federico might train with us today or tomorrow – but Diogo definitely not. And Conor Bradley, let’s see if he can be with us tomorrow.”
Federico Chiesa
- Injury: Knock
- Potential return date: Arsenal (A) – 27/10/24
When asked about Federico Chiesa’s fitness before the win over Crystal Palace, Slot responded, “I’m not expecting him to be out for a very long period of time,” However, since being an unused substitute against Wolves in late September, the Italy international has yet to feature for Liverpool.
The pacey winger was signed for a bargain price in the summer transfer window, but his history of injuries is well-known. The Reds will be hoping he’s fully fit and ready to make an impact soon, with a tough run of fixtures approaching.
Harvey Elliott
- Injury: Foot
- Potential return date: Mid-November
Harvey Elliott had a strong impact last season, providing energy and intensity off the bench when needed by former manager Klopp. However, he played only seven minutes of Premier League action before suffering a foot fracture, with his return not expected until November.
He will face strong competition once he’s fully fit, but Slot has recently suggested that the 21-year-old will be given playing time when he’s ready to return.
Conor Bradley
- Injury: Knock
- Potential return date: Arsenal (A) – 27/10/24
Conor Bradley has proven to be a dependable backup for Trent Alexander-Arnold over the past year, bringing energy and determination to the right-back position when needed.
He has made four substitute appearances in the Premier League and started one Carabao Cup match this season, but seemed to suffer an injury while on international duty with Northern Ireland. He was absent from the matchday squad against Chelsea and may not be fit for Sunday’s trip to London.
