Edon Zhegrova delivered a standout performance against Juventus, leaving PSV manager Giuntoli with potential regrets as top clubs take notice of his talent. Meanwhile, Malik Tillman sent a clear message to coach Peter Bosz after a stellar display in PSV’s recent Champions League match, showcasing his preference for the attacking midfield role over a holding position. Both players continue to make waves, further solidifying their reputations on the European stage.
Zhegrova Dazzles vs. Juventus, Leaving Giuntoli Regretful
Edon Zhegrova was clearly the star player in a tough match for Lille, helping them earn a vital draw at home against Juventus in the new Champions League. The Kosovo-born, German-raised winger was a constant threat on the right wing, troubling Juventus defenders Juan Cabal and Andrea Cambiaso for the full 90 minutes.
Zhegrova showcased his brilliance with a brilliant assist from midfield for Jonathan David’s opening goal, capitalizing on a Kalulu mistake. His outstanding display has sparked renewed transfer rumors, with speculation growing for both the January window and beyond.
Giuntoli now faces the possibility of losing the advantage he had with the former Basel player, as multiple top clubs, including Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, and Roma, have joined the chase for Zhegrova. Meanwhile, Atalanta has emerged as a serious contender, targeting Zhegrova as a possible replacement for Ademola Lookman, who is drawing interest from Real Madrid and PSG.
Although a move in January seems improbable with Zhegrova’s contract running until June 2026, next summer may offer interested clubs the chance to negotiate a discounted rate as he approaches the last year of his deal. Meanwhile, Zhegrova continues to shine, having scored 7 In 16 appearances, he scored goals and contributed two assists across the Champions League and Ligue 1 this season, boosting his global reputation even further.
PSV’s Tillman Sends a Clear Message to Coach Bosz
Following a standout performance in the Champions League, Malik Tillman informed PSV manager Peter Bosz that he feels much more comfortable in his preferred attacking midfield position.
Tillman made history in PSV’s 4-0 victory over Girona on Tuesday, scoring a goal and providing two assists, becoming the first U.S. Men’s National Team player to register three goal contributions in a Champions League match.
The 22-year-old provided assists for PSV’s first and third goals, while he netted the second with an impressive solo effort.
Tillman played in his natural attacking midfield role on Tuesday, following several matches where Bosz had tried him in a holding midfield position.
With regular starter Jerdy Schouten sidelined due to injury, Tillman initially performed well. However, he made a costly turnover over the weekend against Ajax, which directly contributed to the Amsterdam side’s 3-2 victory.
After his standout performance on Tuesday, Tillman told CBS Sports that he hopes his stint as a No. 6 will be brief.
“I hope he knows now, the higher up the pitch I play, the happier I am,” Tillman said of Bosz. “And you can all see my qualities.”
Tillman also discussed his goal, explaining how he received the ball on the left wing, which was far from the goal. As he moved forward, no Girona defender pressured him, giving him the space to dribble until he took a near-post shot from close range.
“I was looking for Luuk [de Jong] to cross it at first, but then I saw I had a lot of space, so why not dribble, drive the ball, see what they do,” Tillman said. “They didn’t take me, so I tried to score, and that’s what I did.”
